everyone in the UK has powers of arrest afaik - you don't even need to be a citizen. however, i'd imagine that these guys are instructed on how to use it, unlike the wider populace

There is sadly a much bigger problem when people can not stop widely unpopular legislation from coming to fruition. Representative democracy is not always democracy... even with an election looming.

the interface is good. :) i can not praise that element enough. so many libraries have gigantic, needlessly elaborate interfaces, and forget to provide clean interfaces for the most common use cases. that makes it hard to use them... this h

i've not yet worked on a game console platform that doesn't end up in trouble when you try and free some small number. given the context of doom 3 engine i think my experience covers it well... unless they did some insane PS1 port

yeah, so he said the problem was that this pointer was freed out of his control. any way of packing data into that pointer suffers the same problem - except even worse, you are now freeing something that wasn't allocated.

right, but then why can't you take that same opportunity to pull your pointer out and replace it with a zero to avoid it being free'd ?

smart pointers are always dumb imo. GC or do it yourself - everything in between is always more of a headache in my experience. I've spent more time debugging reference counts in few code bases than debugging new/delete in many.

This sounds like a publicity stunt... My real concern with all of this is always the uncontrolled ecosystem of steadily evolving viruses and malware. We will never have control of that... and there is no telling what it can become in the fu

That packing the controller id into a pointer, which you couldn't use to point at a controller id because it gets freed before you can use it? I must misunderstand something because the hack is going to fail too, except that you are go

The data set is far too small to draw serious conclusions from yet.... especially the 'increase' in stores that weren't participating (although a 50% drop 'feels' like it should be significant...). Still, hopefully

This is the best argument for not doing this imo. "Classic UNIX behavior was that environment variables were public (any user could see them with the right flags to "ps") so it was well-known not to put anything secret there.
