I've been working with a company for the past while now that deals with sports data. Perhaps you can verify this for me, but I've noticed a pattern: if a sport is American, and in a college, the stats and math behind it are disproportionate

Interestingly, the catholic church had HUGE problems with the orthodox church during its inception for just that. If you get the chance, you should give "Byzantium: The Surprising Life of a Medieval Empire" ( http://www.amazon.ca/Byzantium-

CSS Edit gives me instant feedback on my changes. It's not always easy to know how changes to your CSS will display. You have to think about all the rules that are in play, as well as the defaults of a given browser. HTML is much easier. Yo

My biggest qualm with Sass is that it introduces a speed bump in my workflow compared to using plain CSS. This is due to the fact that I can use tools like CSS Edit to create, edit, and verify my CSS all at the same time. If these tools als

It does look nice, but that's a lot of very widely used code that's being deprecated. That's why it's being only deprecated though. Deprecation is a signal to the developer that things are changing. It's the step before terminating

You're right in noting that Rubinstein did not say that no one at Palm has ever used an iPhone before. I can virtually guarantee you that any of the CEOs you mentioned that are worth their weight in salt has at least tried the products yo

VOIP margines must be high enough that urging such a move is even more profitable. It's likely, as mentioned in the article, the AT&T will push for legislative changes to improve their market position and control.

It's definitely something I'm going to be looking at in the very near future. The pain we're experiencing is definitely worsened by the fact that it's largely undocumented internally as well. Have you had experience with either technology,

I couldn't agree more, and will tell you that we're already there. I'm working on a project right now with an exceedingly complex JSON API. There isn't a day that goes by that I wish I could have gone back in time and had the team use XML i

I'm excited by the ideas and approach of Palm, but their phone bores me. When I hold it I don't feel like I'm holding something substantial -- a sensation the iPhone does give me.

Now THAT'S really exciting. I began doing mobile dev recently and I definitely feel the kilobyte pinch. Projects like XUI definitely help, but it'd be nice to use all the cool things that I'm used to from jQuery.

True as that may be, I've worked on far too many projects now that are burdened by this attitude. No tests, sloppy and unreadable code. My attitude is simple: code like the person who will be working on the app next is standing behind you w

If you're capturing something you don't want, you can always prefix your match with '?:' to have a non-capturing group. FWIW, I personally prefer the #match method. Some of the examples in this article just make me want to hurt people. Espe

It seems to me that the goal of the App Store is to not only provide a convenient location for consumers to purchase apps (and therefore to act as a source of revenue for both Apple and their clients), but to also help ensure a quality expe

Prolog is a pretty neat language. It feels really strange at first, but as you grow used to its weirdness, it becomes much more enjoyable. I learned Prolog in university using the book "Prolog Programming in Depth", by Michael A. Covingto

That's fine and dandy, but when I want to use your libraries with JRuby or MacRuby, I'm SOL. I kind of like the portability of avoiding fork() and exec() for those reasons.

You would be correct. I've been using Git longer than Mercurial, but I feel that I have a better grasp of how to use Mercurial. That said, Git is exponentially more powerful in my experience. I'm rather enjoying getting to know it.

1.87 is a transitional release designed to ease some of the pain of moving to 1.9. Some gems and libraries, also, aren't fully 1.9 compatible. I think more so than even these is that getting people to change can be fairly difficult.
