Well these engineers weren't savvy enough to figure out that they could make 110K right now. Who's to say they will in two years? Or maybe you just give them a raise to 110K in two years and they'll be happy with that and never figure out

I'd be more interested to hear how they prevent theft by employees of the money to be destroyed. How hard is it to steal money that nobody will ever be looking for again?

I don't know how relevant it is to generosity that the rich give away a higher percentage than the non-rich. Gates and Buffett could give away 99% of their earnings if they wanted to. If I did the same, I would be more in need of charity

Isn't the chart on the top of the page misleading? I think just about anyone would think on first glance that Groupon's revenue had ~tripled month-over-month.

One problem I have is that Holocaust Deniers, I think, realize that they aren't going to 'win' the argument, they are mostly looking to plant the seeds of doubt. They're not trying to convince you the holocaust didn't happen, but they're t

OK I'll play along- I also can't fly to work everyday because there's no airport nearby and I would be broke within weeks. Therefore, driving is more dangerous because I'm forced to spend more time doing it.

Well just about everyone other than Pilots spends a lot more of their life driving than flying, which is still irrelevant to which is the safer mode of transportation. When you boil it down, you're still saying "Going somewhere is more dan

I don't think I agree with your logic here. It seems like you're saying that traveling to far away places is more dangerous than close places, regardless of how you get there. I don't see how that makes flying more dangerous.

I don't disagree in principle, I'm just saying that putting up aggregated statistics for something that lends itself to once-in-a-lifetime catastrophic events doesn't tell us a whole lot. I think even the biggest MAD proponents would agree

Same reason people are much more afraid to fly than drive, despite statistics- We're not scared of dying so much as dying in a catastrophe. Also notice that natural gas is especially low, even though everyone who's ever had gas heat has im

all sorts of extremely mysoginistic pop culture suggests not that "the Japanese are so civilised", only that they are merely different. It's interesting that sexual violence strikes such a chord with us westerners, but we think nothing of

In the world of high-stakes gamblers, you're judged more on how much you're willing to gamble than how much $ you're actually worth. So that was an FU on multiple levels.

OK, but there are degrees of subtlety though. A casual fan might see someone score 40 points in a basketball game and say "wow, he must be a great player" while a hardcore fan might chime in and say "actually he's way overrated. He's a po
