yeah.. Ive noticed a kind of anti-pattern - governments funding various startup programs, which end up being totally useless to _actual_ startups, but great plays for the next level investors [ eg. the real estate investor who rents out the

I think we're in for a new multi-decade round of 'eating the world' .. and Im going to annoy everyone by suggesting that the microkernel of this new megascale world-changing engine of growth is actually the tiny garage startu

I thought thats why we had urls not only IP addresses .. which reminds me, who has control over DOI.org ... eg. is it DOGE-safe ? likewise arXiv .. can it easily be co-opted / subsumed ?

Demis Hassabis seems to describe a process whereby an AI can accelerate the results of billions of simulations by efficiently encoding that predictive behavior.. making something that is computationally expensive to simulate perhaps several

Just as we have weather forecasting, climate models .. we do need and should have good fine-grain computational models of complex systems such as the cell .. and the global economy. We should be able to have whole economy simulations give r

Inequality has also changed over the last 40 years .. students have to hustle gig-economy jobs just to get by, and incur substantial debt to study. https://www.pewresearch.org/social-trends/wp-content/uploads... C

Its not too late to hope for the current crop of LLMs to give rise to a benevolent, patient science based educator, like the "Young Ladies Illustrated Primer" of Neal Stephensons Diamond Age. We clearly will soon have the technolo

Sure.. and neural networks came out a very long time ago, but are now arguably approaching usefulness in LLMs. Perhaps thats because it takes a while for the ideas to get polished/weeded and diffuse into the engineer zeitgeist .. or it

I dont think anyone has found a good way to map higher dimensional space onto 4D visualizations, yet. Maybe this is why tokens and language are so useful for humans ? they might be the closest analog we have.
