I see your point. But then, do you really believe one would be a smart person if they were to look for .NET jobs where at the same time Windows is not the dominant environment that people use at work?

Just re-read C# documentation and remembered the situation more clearly. Basically, I consciously researched the differences between class and struct in C# beforehand. And decided to use struct as the 'thing' was a kind of a coord

Yes, of course, I applied 'when in Rome' a lot. In this case though, the struct usage was completely in line with C# documentation regarding what structs are for. I wasn't trying to write C++ in C#. But hey, I do agree that c

I can chime in on this one. I think it's very much a 'culture' thing. So, I'm a *nix guy. You know, running Sway WM, using Doom Emacs as my daily driver, that sort of a thing. Learned vim to write my thesis at night on a

I feel the same. The other day there was a video submit to HN that I didn't watch because I wasn't in a situation where I could watch a video. Basically making pancakes for kids, having an IRL conversation in the background, and c

Going on a bit of a tangent here, but I would really prefer if less people chose video as the medium to explain things. For me at least it's markedly easier, quicker, and convenient to read things.

Note that this submission is about a learning project where someone aims to write a (minimal?) Linux ABI compatible kernel. To directly answer your question though. It's not that 'Rust memory allocations' panic. Rather it was

Yeah, somewhat counterintuitively treating tech as a cost center will inevitably lead to wasted funds. But hey, that just makes incumbents die faster and give way to organizations treating tech as an investment. Which are the ones you want

I second this. Like all of what you wrote applies to me as well. Manjaro 'just works' for me for quite a few years now. AUR is great, I've found some really obscure software there, and that also 'just works'. Like,

That's very absolutist thinking. Just because some solution doesn't solve all the problems outright doesn't mean that it's totally useless. What's the baseline? Using bamboo plywood thing instead of normal plywood?

I find the whole premise that we're not trying to follow the shortest path weird. In our _evolutionary_ surroundings if you turn towards the thing you want to get to, and then walk, you're pretty much following the shortest path.

One can wish. The more likely end game seems to be one where no one actually bothers using a real Linux installation, as you can do everything you'd need Linux for on your Windows machine. But your Windows machine has become a 'tr

In principle though. You _could_ build a nice TUI application using one of the modern TUI frameworks, that you launch from a 'normal OS' for these specific applications, and make the machines connect through some zero trust networ

Right, that's what I thought. This implies that you'd either need to recreate the access rules somewhere else for the application layer and use something like Teleport or some PAM server on top of Tailscale, or use some proverbial
