So that’s what the Dunning-Kruger effect basically boils down to, right? That people in general are just bad at assessing their skills.

Of course. That’s an expected outcome if everyone just works within the system according to their incentives. When it comes to the US, the country literally would not exist if the British had anything close to the modern governments’ abilit

Yes, and one could argue that banning end to end encryption and doing preventive monitoring of all communications would render crime even less efficient. I think it’s just natural that in a democratic society people fall on different parts

Note though that the fraud that the prosecutor addresses here doesn’t have anything to do with crypto per se. As in, it’s not about securities laws, or even AML stuff. The fraud that scam bank man fraud got sentenced for was plain old theft

I think the “Bond villain” label is more to point towards the way of doing the operation. Which is pretty fitting imo, from the point of view of being everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

It’s interesting how the market’s reaction to this was basically - nothingburger, tick tock, next block.

I think first paper money appeared in China, and was government issued. Wikipedia has a quote ostensibly from Marco Polo where he discusses this peculiarity of people accepting paper as if it was a golden coin.

And that’s exactly what Bitcoin is. I don’t think someone with his mental faculties would have been naive enough to not realize how it could and would be used.

Imagine how scammed the first people who had to accept paper instead of gold felt.

That’s pretty unlikely to happen at the moment though. I’m far from a Tether fanboy, but in this interest rate environment they are likely making boatloads of money just by sitting on a nice chunk of T-bills.

The reasons are really not hypothetical. That being said though, I don’t personally believe that crypto will or necessarily needs to totally replace all fiat usage. It’s more along the lines of the realization that the possibility to have e

There are no criminal charges involving Coinbase or Kraken. Litigation by SEC yes, criminal charges no. There’s a very meaningful difference there. The first type can ruin your business, the second put you behind bars too.

Yeah, it’s super weird to me too. I even got a downvote for this question. And, I can sort of understand that, but then, I haven’t seen anything that would make her accusations obviously groundless. I feel like I must have missed it somehow

They did lose against Ripple. That’s one case law precedent right there for determining what is a security. There’s also a non-negligible chance that they are going to either lose or have a dismissed case against Coinbase. Given that this c

What if your lawyers say one thing, but one of your possible regulators say something else? Or rather, doesn’t say anything, just allude? It’s for the courts to decide then. That’s what they’re literally for. You could argue that a more pro
