Eh, domain specific knowledge can be a huge win. I’d guess space swat team would be worried about rocket fuel, but usda might be worried about herbicide. I would be on board with an fbi run certification system. Organizations send agents fo

Also, you had to memorize everything. No search. You either knew the solution or you spent a lot of time looking at manuals.

One train saves 100 trucks. Yes. For sure. Cities consume. Perhaps diffuse population would have a lower cost. I sorta think moving diverse goods to a central depot is easier and less damaging than point to point transfer.

There is an experimental phase where you really don’t know. Hygiene indicates you should codify the types after you’ve sorted out the real constraints.

I mean this in the most humanist way possible. God bless gamers. They funded a fabulous amount of research. A modern card compared to a voodoo2 is, well, incomprehensible. Thank you for the future. You paid for it. I get the reward.

Under basic income, you _always_ come out ahead when you work. you can take a dollar, or you can have a 2 dollar tax cut. I've never personally been in the position, but i've met quite a few folks that refuse to take a job, becaus

Worst I can think of is a peephole in a cheap apartment looking over a turn on a freeway. Perhaps a fisheye mirror on a big truck.

It’s worse than that. This kind of pressure leads to ethical lapses and outright corruption. Hustle is fine. The requirement to give 110% at every moment of every day to succeed means, anyone with two neurons to rub together will just cheat

the only estimates i've ever been good at are the kind where i think through all the problems and break stuff down hour by hour. I still forget things, and some parts inevitably explode. but the blast radius is pretty small. I can'

It seems like the jury is still out. Perhaps 10,000 of them work out better than a large system. It’ll take time for a lab experiment to turn into a production system. You’re probably right in the short term, for an arbitrarily large value

So, sure. I’ve written velocity guessers based on spinning rust disk accelerometers. It’s easy to build a poor quality system. But an afternoon hack can get you to a few percent accuracy. Analog integration will improve your accuracy a ton.

There is a great gulf between adequate and finesse. I think you would be surprised at how quickly people can become adequate, and developing fineness seems statistical. Not everyone can become amazing, but some will. And the more that have

I think there was a paper about that in the 90’s. If your program required more than X years of supercomputer time, you will get your answer faster by waiting n years to start executing. If I remember correctly it was X=5 and n=2. Moore’s l

I’m pretty sure a Turing machine has infinite tape. So maybe it can represent that. But you’re going to have to wait a moment for it to print.

You might want to be a little tighter with that definition. You can find the source for all sorts of crazy stuff. And with that, you can modify it. Oracle or Microsoft or any other copyright holder that didn’t release that is going to be ti

I’m suggesting it’s a very lightweight regulation. We are in this weird time, where actual safety is hard to ascertain. The safest solution is to simply ban drones. But, there might be some utility there. Building up a history of risk would

After reading this thread, i thought of a sort of obvious solution. Require some amount of liability insurance. There are all sorts of complex regulations that could be put in place, but this is an easy, low effort one.

With a pure jira approach, I would expect engineers to do what they think is best in the moment, and log something that vaguely matches the requirements laid out in the ticket. Essentially ineffective management of developer time.

specifically, rotate one face one quarter turn 3 times. a replay will undo all 3, but the optimal move is to continue the rotation one more quarter turn. (as the degenerate case for a solution being better than unwinding the move stack.)

You likely have much more experience than me. I grew up in the sticks. We had cats, but not specifically for keeping mice out of a barn. They were pets. The character of the cat seems to be the key thing. One cat would spend all day hunting

Totally glib reply, but here it is. If I can represent screen state as quibits, and I have a whole lot of quibits, I can represent a game as a little list of player inputs. Set up an enormous superposition, and as players hit keys, collapse
