I don't think this trend of criticizing the ad-supported business model is fair. Whether you like it or not, having eyeballs is "valuable" and brands will always pay to be seen. It doesn't matter how old you are or how much "value" your app

What? Wasn't the Constitution written in this "Constitution-Free Zone"? This is the first time I've ever said this, but is this really Hacker News? The government is hacking our lives apparently.

I thought the same thing. Cuban's outlook on America seems a little too focused on money imo. I think there are more things to consider than merely your pocketbook. Granted, he is worth 5 billion times more than I am, and the financial cris

Hey, I'm in Dallas... currently a senior at SMU. Dallas has plenty of resources depending on what you want to do. Of course it's nothing compared to the valley, but just off the top of my head, http://viewzi.com , http://www.texasstartupb

I've been using mosso for about 6 months, and I am surprised that I haven't found something to bitch about yet. I've never experienced that database problem, but the few problems I have come across have been dealt with quickly through their

Contrary to what this article might state, this offense is in no way novel, clever, or rule-breaking. This might be novel in SF, but it's nothing short of gimmicky in other areas, sorry.

Twitter could easily implement ads and let users upgrade to a premium account that would hide ads and provide additional goodies like analytics. Just like on Flickr, people love to flaunt their upgrades. Another interesting thing they could

Thanks, I think it's going to be fairly straightforward with twitter-like functionality at first. I'm not really planning to introduce anything technically groundbreaking. I just need to have a project to work on.

I'm working on http://rawberry.tv - somewhat of a platform for creating your own music video mix reel. It's not even close to being done, but I'm hoping to finish it by the time I graduate to help me land a job or something.

With all the data last.fm has to play with, I never would have thought to introduce lyrics, yet it seems like such an obvious move. This is an example of staying true to your roots. Keep your features basic and simple. You don't need to spe

I don't see these location-based social networking apps ever gaining any traction. I used to think location-based social networking would be a huge hit on the iPhone, but I've since changed my mind. I go to a private college with mostly tre

I'm assuming you can't beat Google with 'style' alone, so my use of 'design' pertains more toward the UX and process by which you finally get to the results. Viewzi is pretty innovative by allowing the user to choose where the results are t
