Related only to this comment... I happen to be an Economics major as well. I'm graduating soon and am getting nervous about having to search for jobs/internships in this field because it seems most employers are looking for CS degrees. I ha

if we need to put constraints on it, then that's a business that needs to fail. Exactly! That's kind of what I was meaning to say... :)

You know how we can get different results? By letting these inefficient companies fail. Bankruptcy is the better long-term solution to the problem. These workers won't be unemployed for long. Responsible managers, who have been making the r

Just like in any industry, a good product + favorable market conditions + publicity = success. Obama had more of the above, and in a single mandate election, that's all that matters.

Not anymore. At least in my experience, people think you are either a naive dreamer or a burnout that can't get a real job, especially if you work with computers/internet. I just tell relatives and new people I meet that I don't know what I

I'm curious why so many negative articles on startups keep coming from the NYT. It's like they are sinking with the Titanic and laughing at people in the lifeboats.

A little ironic I think. Newspapers Counting on Ad Sales? Good Luck! They've been in trouble for quite a while thanks to Craigslist and the web in general. Plus didn't news get out today about the NYT mortgaging their HQ to alleviate the hi

Regarding subscription pricing, if you are going to charge and you want to keep the price under $10/mo, charge at least $5.99/mo because a) you can get away with it, and b) $3.99/mo could make your product seem cheap. IMO $5.99 is close t

Exactly. The one thing I've learned from taking a course on the judicial process this semester is that the courts are very political.

Wages are not effected by leverage or productivity. Productivity only matters when figuring out how many laborers you should hire. Leverage is just a weird way of masking the fact that higher paid workers are in low supply and high demand.

Do you like Broken Social Scene? They are probably my favorite band. They have members from Do Make Say Think, Feist, Stars, Metric, Kevin Drew, Brendan Canning, etc. I saw Explosions in the Sky in Denton, TX at Hailey's in 2004. Best live

My friends and I have been looking into textiles lately to make our own designs for simple striped shirts. From what I've gathered, you need to first find a place that will make your fabric design, and then send the fabric to a place along

I'm offended. Limiting the job to a CS major is the equivalent of limiting it to a design major. UI/UX specialists require skills/knowledge in BOTH design and computer concepts. You aren't going to find someone who is 100% qualified (accord

We advertise a gaming related site to Facebook users with interests like Halo, Counter-Strike, World of Warcraft, etc. If I recall correctly, for $5 a day we get an average 3-5 new sign ups out of 50 or so hits.
