I see a problem too when these sort of articles are a little too abstract/simple. I think the solution here is ground articles like this on, you know, real startups that have succeeded on focusing. In that respect there are few sites t

Yeah I agree, it's sort of the 'early adopter' version of where it'll be in a few years hopefully. That said because it's sort of a different medium model, I can see why this is hard to change or move past.

It would certainly make sense for Soundcloud to leverage their position beyond the hosting standpoint yeah. I wonder what are their thoughts on this manner.

In the 'Online Video' section he calls out podcasts as an emerging/trending medium. I'd love to hear more about where people in HN community feel it's moving. Of course there's the obvious Serial momentum, and

Doesn't the 4 stars also speak to the focus Paper has versus the 'catchall' UX of Facebook's primary app?

Amazing transparency! Imagine if the whole industry behaved this way, we'd all be better for it. Maybe a minor point to some here, but I'd love to know more about the QA process changes they're hinting at.

Every time I see a post like this I always learn a few new snippets for best practices. There almost seems like a need for a primer site for all sorts of languages and ecosystems. I'm sure something like this exists right?

I wouldn't say Xcode is perfect by any means, however I think Apple has a deep appreciation for workflows and simplicity. Whether it's about the end-user consumers or the developers themselves any sort of friction inhibits delight

As a strongly leaning iOS developer, something like the "Xcode for Android" was something that was holding me back from committing more to experimenting on the platform. The fact that Instruments, Interface Builder, etc are integr

Maybe I'm crazy (and admittedly a little old) but I like the separation of my social and financial software "zones". I know there are tremendous reasons to incorporate this directly into a social product but I just can't

Yeah I would've loved a little more detail on how they architected the move to NSCoding / serialization straight to disk. There's a lot more ways to do this wrong than right from how open-ended a 'schema' like that

It seems to take strengths from Google's email aggregation prowess + Mailbox-like functionality + Google Now integration. A smart play but yeah it's going to look very derivative in light of how awesome Mailbox already is at tackl

I noticed there's a lite and pro version of the app. You might want to combine these into one app for a couple reasons off the top of my head: - easier maintenance and sanity for you as a developer/creator - leverages lite users t

Seems like an interesting choice for a demo video to showcase Flipboard (i.e. regarding their own stake in this realm of products, Paper). Granted this isn't about that, but that was fun to think about.

Also MMS support. I know this works for certain carriers through some sorcery but for regular GV users we're stuck with hacky solutions.

I think it'll be interesting to see that even if we do get a rethought Apple TV or even an 'iWatch' in the near future, will that actually spur any real change in the way the company is perceived. A lot of people have said so

I'd say some people are in it to get absorbed sure, but there are also people who wanted to make it on their own but can't because of continual funding, the need to compete with free competitors, etc.

Part of the benefits of being hybrid is that yes you can iterate slightly faster, at least if you're coming from a strong web background. Also moving to webviews allows you to bypass some of the issues with submitting/changing content to th

One of the biggest pros for having a file system is data portability. To a local degree that means being able to use files across multiple contexts, usually "apps". Another related effect is that you can transfer your files across devices/p
