Yes the workflow has shifted. I've handled the sloppiest slop with llms and turned the worst code into error free modern and tested code in a fraction of the time it used to take me. People aren't worried about cost because $1k in

How long does it take you to go through the code vs writing it yourself?

So? Getting a months' worth of junior level code in an hour is still unbelievable.

I already miss the fun heads down days of unraveling complex bugs. Now I'm just telling AI what to do.

AI's are amazing at understanding even the utterly horrific bad code. I've refactored the sloppiest slop with AI in days with zero regressions. If I did it manually it could have taken months.

Outlier compared to what? I'm not denying new forms of media have negative impacts but the world kept spinning and progressing.

But what was the impact? Society has made tremendous progress since the invention of TV.

Look, you tell the LLMs what kind of tests you want and judge the quality before committing. If you're letting the LLM create useless test that's on you. I think you're reading these comments in bad faith as if I'm letti

A fancy CRUD app is still a CRUD app.

I don't know why you'd think that. 200 decent unit tests are better than zero unit tests.

One of my worst job experiences was when I depended on a colleague who wouldn't deliver. Any feedback or conversations with that colleague mostly resulted in tantrums and empty promises. The lack of delivery severely harmed the service

Table saws seem too dangerous for me but a track saw would work too! I think I'm going to go paint lines in parking lots.

It's funny every time there is some corporate team building session or whatever and the question is asked "what do you want to do when you retire?" every developer always suggests doing something more tangible. Nobody ever sa

Are you going to build tech to combat tech? I got a phone lock box and bring physical books everywhere now. I bring classics or sci-fi stuff. What really started driving me crazy is that when I'm doing kid stuff like sports or library

I moisturize my eyes with Optive drops, have special computer glasses with a lens designed for the distance of my screen, and take frequent eye breaks every 15 minutes. My eyes are otherwise healthy but I'm of a certain age (mid 40s) w

I think LLMs can generate tons of production quality code if you put in the time. I do it every day. The output and productivity is amazing. I'm also really bored and hate that my job is writing specs and stupid prompts.

If I can context switch between two prompts I will. If the task is hard and I can't easily break context I'll do exercises, chores, or comment on HN.

I don't understand why you think this is important to mention. Search engines are better at certain tasks than others. If I said should FLY to Spain is it a cheap shot against sailing because I didn't mention it?
