Still, you pay a one-time cost of reading the manual, then the ongoing benefit of using a nicer UI. With cURL you pay the one-time cost of reading its manual, but also pay the ongoing cost of dealing with its unintuitive, verbose, and gener

Try punching the paper's title/author/etc into Google Scholar and CiteSeer to find other freely available copies. This works very well in CS, math, and physics, but is hit-or-miss in the "soft" sciences.

Is the ZeroRPC protocol documented anywhere? I settled on using ZeroMQ + MessagePack to glue together my Python, Ruby, and C++ components, but haven't yet decided whether to use an existing RPC protocol or roll my own. ZeroRPC looks like a

I see Linus's rant as just pragmatic realpolitik. He's just one guy and he's wielding his influence in an effective way. He wouldn't be able to have nearly as much of an impact if he played by this idea that he should operate in a "professi

Why are Charlie Rose interviews only available via Flash? It's a shame that these amazing interviews are only accessible on systems that run Flash. I'd love to even get an audio only file.

It does say "BS Computer Science or equivalent " -- so they're asking for a certain level of education, which doesn't necessarily have to be in the form of a college degree.

Threads have separate stacks and the call to front() and pop_front() is protected by the mutex, so that part is fine as far as I can see.

The code in listings 3 and 5 is not thread safe. The list could easily become empty between the call to empty() and acquiring the mutex, leading to a race condition. I see two other subtle race conditions as well. I haven't looked at the re

No, this is a problem intrinsic to the whole dating site/app genre. I'd suggest reading up on it if you're in this field. The biggest problem any straight person dating site has to figure out is how to get women on the site and keep them ha

The other replies to your post are focusing on the fact that you mistakenly used "cross site scripting" in your post, but you raise a valid point: is it really a problem to cause a GET request to that URL? It would be a lot more convincing

Yeah, I don't understand why Blogger now requires javascript to read any blog. The content is just static HTML most of the time! Why are they pushing so hard to hide the content if you have javascript disabled?
