I do the same thing, but instead of plus addressing I give each vendor a unique email at my domain. I now receive spam on my mint, geico, tumblr, lendingclub, disney, adobe, and dropbox addresses. In my case it's always outright spam

A lot of people (myself included) read the comments first, and then visit the article if our interest is piqued. That's why comments like the GP get upvotes.

The site where I had all the photos needs them to be reimported at the moment, so I can't check, but I estimate it was at least 8 million pixels tall. Instead of putting the photos IN the div, I just used the div to make the page tall

The title of this article is a little confusing, as I thought it was referring to the Universal Music Group (UMG), one of the big four music labels. A better term would be a streaming service aggregator, perhaps?

If the page isn't infinitely tall, but instead has a known (but very tall height), having an invisible page element hundreds of thousands of pixels tall makes the scrollbar work perfectly. What content to load is determined based on t

A compromise that wouldn't hurt innocent websites would be to remove the CA's ability to issue new certificates. CAs knew that the stakes were high when they signed up to be a CA, so I think it'd be fair to remove them perman

That was my understanding too. At $9.50/mo, a server with 96GB of RAM would bring in $912/mo. A quick click around dell finds that a mid-range 1U rackmount server (R320) with that much RAM costs $3,135. So a back-of-the-envelope

Fair enough. I was just looking at the post in question without knowing the context. If they had ran it a few more years before they shut it down it'd feel less deceptive, since conditions can change and a product might not make sense

I'm not so sure. "We regret to announce...", "We appreciate", a factual paragraph about what the team has been doing at ebay, and a way to export your data. That's far better than the typical "We're

If you use 20 bytes for the city name and 6 bytes for the GPS coordinate (no need to be too precise in a case like this) you can fit 880 city names in a file that size. The program could then search the file to see which city was closest.

It's not quite that bad. 3.0 was released in November of 2013. It's allowed to be certified under 2.0 until the end of 2014. I'm not well-versed in the changes to know off the top of my head if any of the changes would matt

A problem with this is that wifi range is too limited. It'd be better if part of the FRS band was repurposed for emergency mesh data connections, with support baked into the cellphones themselves. The throughput wouldn't be stel

Another great way to get notifications on your phone is to use your carrier's email-to-SMS gateway. For example, on T-mobile it is 6105551212@tmomail.net. If you don't want to set up nagios, you can create a quick monitoring solu

You can read the entire thread here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/clearskies-dev/sTlXzBO... For the sync app itself GPL would have worked great, but we want to have an easy-to-integrate sync library.

I'm confused. The protocol spec doesn't mention SQLite. The ruby proof-of-concept doesn't use SQLite. I've not seen fossil before that I can recollect (I am the author of the clearskies protocol spec).

Speed isn't actually too much of an issue with the ruby client, since all the CPU time is spent in the GnuTLS and Digest::SHA256 code, which is already written in C. The problem is portability to android and iOS. We additionally want

Peer discovery is the same as with btsync. It uses a central tracker, but you can also add peers manually. We're planning on adding DHT support.
