I understand that. But, say I propose to stefantalpalaru to write an engine supporting Linux from scratch. And if that's too hard, wouldn't it be fair to say, that it is also a problem between the chair and the keyboard?

I've actually went to the Wikipedia to look up, who the creator of Io was. :) No, seriously, thank you for creating it. Although I hadn't had the chance to use it in production (most of my stuff is just numerical), Io is an incred

AFAIK, Io isn't the kind of language to be compared with Go & co. - I don't think performance is one of its strong points. Rather it is a light and embeddable language, kind of like Lua.

Exactly, it is insane, how personal some people in the ex-USSR perceive some things. The way Russian society went absolutely bonkers over the Pussy Riot case is one example. The reaction to protests and the subsequent revolution in Ukraine

I agree, it is mind boggling. From personal experience: I've talked to people I know from Russia, who are supportive of the current regime. What either ends the conversation or gets misdirected in nanoseconds is the question "What

If time is the true currency, then the whole `bower install whatever` approach is basically potential crushing credit card debt.

Fair enough. As a side note: I think we as a community should promote the catchphrase "You've Been Torvalds'd".

I agree, that C++11 is an improvement. I was actually quite excited when Stroustrup's updated book on the subject came out. But like I said, I still can't find a fit for C++ in any of my projects. My use cases however are far diff

In the case of git, C++ was actually evaluated (in a manner very natural to Linus) and not discarded due to some habit: http://harmful.cat-v.org/software/c++/linus

I completely agree. It's difficult to find a place for C++ in my little projects, given that I can use C for low level stuff and Python or Lua for high level stuff.

This is my point exactly. I'd consider both git and the Linux kernel tough projects, so the choice of the programming language is interesting. More so, given his stance on C++.

There's an example in Part 1, where string concatenation is used as an example. C++ requires "adding" two string objects and C requires manipulating char pointers. And thus, C++ is a better teaching programming language. Alth

Well, if the point of the study would change with the choice of the units, then the study isn't that good, is it? :) I'm not arguing the point. I'm arguing, that using twelfths has not utility over using per cent, for example

"twelfths"? Why isn't the word count measured in French metric quarts of ink, then? I'm disappointed. P.S. Cool article though.

The only reason people think that banks profits are undeserved in comparison to the other industries, is because people don't care to understand banking. If you take, for example, pharmaceuticals or the food industry, you'd find a
