Hledger has a more sane query language, but its not as powerful as ledger's. Also probably less bugs than ledger. Ledger, however, lets you do pretty much anything you want and thats why i prefer it. of course its easier to make mistak

i3 kinda does this. It manages workspaces/windows/tabs. I use qutebrowser and it has the option of 'tabs as windows' so that i3 can handle my browser tabs. My user experience is pretty consistant across my entire system.
