I didn't find 2 surprising either, but I'm a little surprised you never see it. If you want to treat the args to a function as immutable, what can you do besides copy, modify, and return a new object?

I hadn't heard of the author before this. I'll definitely read more of their stuff, but I thought the bottom line for part three was a little incomplete. > Bottom line: the more uncertainty, indeterminacy, ambiguity in your gam

The title contradicts the article. Our eyes are averaging information that is up to 15 seconds old, but we can obviously react to visual stimuli in less than 15 seconds so it’s not all that old. They’re probably also confounding the researc

Meanwhile the local “eco friendly” pesticide company is knocking on everyone’s door, showing them pictures of scary looking bugs, offering to treat their entire yard from the foundation to the pavement. I don’t get it

OSH Park is pretty great for prototyping. $5-20 / square inch depending on the board type. I remember running into some constraint limits years ago but they may have improved since then. https://oshpark.com/

Flies are pollinators in the US too, but the second to last paragraph is a little worrisome > Another important point is that we have very good evidence of range declines and even extinctions among wild pollinators, which aren’t being m

This is about mid range wireless charging [1] not Qi chargers. If something is charging your watch from across the room it's blasting your whole body. The FCC limits RF exposure to 1.6 W/kg. [2] That's presumably the standard

I think what’s going on behind the verbal sleight of hand here, is focusing on the process (quest) instead of the outcome (goal). It’s the difference between doing a thing and having done a thing. I might enjoy having written a book, but I

I’ve had the same problem. In my case it was uBlock hiding the full page cookie dialog but the dialog was still disabling text selection. I really wish websites would just respectfully set the minimum by default and let users opt in to the

Sounds like a questionable tradeoff to me. I just want underscore remapped to shift-space. It’d be easy to type because they’re both big keys. And underscore is a variation of a space anyway. It’s like an uppercase space

Exactly. LLMs are closer to a plinko game than consciousness. And I'd bet they quickly start returning gibberish when you run them in a feedback loop, sort of like an opamp going to a power rail in a badly designed circuit

They’re probably referring to the earth getting enveloped by the sun in a billion or so years as it expands. I still think you’re right though. The better plan is staying on earth. The trick is moving it outward as the habitable zone expand

It's not perfect, but pretty close if you compound monthly. It works with your examples too. 100% interest (compounded monthly) doubles at about 0.75 years, and 0.75 interest doubles at around 100 years. 41% interest doubles at around
