I run Linux, use my own VPN, and use Firefox with uMatrix. CAPTCHAs are one of the most user-hostile things I experience on the web. I've had to give up on registering for sites, or signing into sites I'm already registered with,

Which is pretty disappointing considering the original plan of a $5 computer. I think they lost sight of their original goals pretty early on.

This looks great. I currently use a few separate applications for working with various databases, looking forward to giving this a shot instead.

My heart sank a little when I saw this appear on my profile last night. I don't understand which demographic this is meant to target or what the point of it is, I just can't think of a single reasonable use case for it.

Yeah they do an incredible job, seem to have things before certain official channels do as you mentioned. The company I'm employed with works with Iridium, so I like keeping track of how the NEXT deployment is going.

I use spaceflightnow[0] to keep track of launches. Not always 100% up to date but usually updated pretty frequently, good enough for me. [0] https://spaceflightnow.com/launch-schedule/

I've never experienced this in my 5 or 6 years of using them (not definitively saying it doesn't happen). I frequently search for domains and then come back at a later date to purchase them for the exact price they were originally

That's quite interesting, my government recommends people (specifically children it seems, however) get the vaccination. I'll have to read into that, thanks for the link. https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health

I wouldn't say I have "a lot" of applications installed, although I'm not too sure how to quantify that. I assumed it WinSxS related as the other reply mentions, and upon investigation found that it is 9GB alone! I don&#

I did a clean install of Windows 10 on my workstation less than a month ago and my Windows directory is sitting at 23GB, methinks something funky is going on here.

I am so glad to hear this! I've been holding off on Wireguard solely because I need iPhone support, but I've had the same problems you're referring to with OpenVPN.

It's not unique to HN, Reddit has been rampant with both (and more) for as along as I can remember.

They're also selling product for double what the street value is, so there's that. I still can't believe how poorly the province has handled this, you would have thunk that we'd be all over it given our reputation.

From my time browsing HN, the consensus seems to be "don't use JWTs". What is the preferred method of client authentication for simple APIs these days?

My home setup is a plain old Xubuntu installation; for browsing I'm running Firefox with uBlock Origin. Nothing fancy or too far out of the ordinary. Lately I've experienced the same thing, often 3-4 rounds of captcha challenges,

I'm doing fine, I have slowly growing savings and spend a small portion of my income on housing. As I mentioned, this is mostly because I opted to live with other people and I do not own a vehicle. I am definitely underpaid but willing

Let me give you an example of where I live. I make (for here, not in general) reasonable money; most of my friends make considerably less than I do. I also happen to be lucky and live with room mates which drastically reduces my cost of liv

Yeah, I share this sentiment. I live in Canada, we get gouged bad here. Thankfully my employer covers my cell phone, because my bill would regularly be well over $100/month with the amount of data I use.

You can pry my keyboard from my cold dead hands. No way I'd want to use a virtual keyboard with no tactile feedback. I try to avoid typing my phone whenever possible as it is already.

I've seen a few microbreweries re-using bottles lately, I thought it was a fantastic idea. Gives them a bit of character as a bonus too, lots will have scuffs and other markings on them from previous use/transport.
