For me, the name 'Eagle' reminds me of the book "Soul of a New Machine" by Tracy Kidder. That book is about the design and bring-up of another new (at the time) computer system, the Data General MV/8000, which was a

No. Even if developing something Twitter related was interesting to me, I wouldn’t want to be complicit in encouraging anyone to join or use Twitter.

That’s cool. I was mid-20s. I was fortunate to be able to work on UNIX systems at the time, doing language systems work. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Can confirm. I did brakes and rotors on all four wheels on my 4WD 2012 Tundra a while back. Went smoothly and I knew that all bolts were properly torqued when I was done.

I also enjoyed the green "Dragon Book" [1] on compilers, by Aho and Ullman. I think it must have been thirty years ago, or more, though. [1] https://www.amazon.com/Principles-Compiler-Addison-Wesley-in...

I have worked in high tech since 1983. Over my career, I have received unsolicited bonuses, stock grants, and other perks, from time to time. At the same time, when I thought I had made a material contribution to the company's success

I was and still am entirely serious. I don’t know you and doubt that you and I have ever said three words to each other. What’s your basis for your claim to clearly know my intent? The article author works for a company that has 54 open pos

Thank you for writing this article. I’m curious: The engineers that brought these significant cost savings to your company, did they receive a share of the money saved?

The meeting where everyone will ignore all of the other forces at play that caused the outcome, and pretend that if only Joe or Mary had been better in some way, the whole disaster never would have happened. Yeah, fuck that shit.

I think David Deutsch has suggested that to be objective is to be sincere in identifying and correcting errors in one’s analysis.

Male genital mutilation survives in America through laundry-list persuasion. If you look at the history of the practice in America you will find that medical claims of benefit last about ten years before being debunked. The cultural claims

This talk [1] by Dr. Brian Earp is a good explanation of the confusion around this common claim. [1] https://youtu.be/MXfjgPr-YsA

It is also the case that public health boards are given such latitude that doctors who force these damaging and unnecessary surgeries on infants cannot be sued for medical battery. It is an insane practice.

Dr. Brian Earp is excellent resource on this topic. I had the pleasure of talking with him at a conference on genital autonomy in SF a few years back. What I most admire about Brian’s work is his relentless scholarship and his calm and kind

I was thinking I might get a reply about non-duality or something else along those lines, as that topic interests me. That being said, I'm down with people exploring psychedelics if they wish to do so.
