You will need to upgrade to JDK11. Or find another JDK 8 support option e.g. RedHat or Azul

It became useful for people who have as job using public data or providing it. Such as the life sciences, governments and the archaeology/history and more. It allows for nice bottom up standards and user interfaces such as flight data

The JDK10 build released today is a much better Docker friend by taking the docker settings into account while running inside one.

Yes, using RDF+SPARQL I would use it any day of the week. The power off RDF comes when having to deal with other peoples data, or providing your data to other people. This is not a usecase everyone has but if you do nothing beats RDF+SPARQL

Interesting enough it's the second public JVM project that I know off funded by Oracle that is not supporting solaris or sparc (anymore). (Graal work for SPARC seemed to have stopped as well)

Just hit df -lh on the EBI login nodes and see a 22PB filesystem at 93% full. I suspect if I dig deeper I will find a bigger one as they had 120PB of storage last year[1]. [1] https://academic.oup.com/nar/article/46

Not OP: but working on a downstream project and my current boss used to work on EMBL-bank in the day. A lot of this stuff is in databases. e.g. Oracle and I think for advanced search it was in Teradata. However, databases are hard to share

It is also worth to estimate how quickly nuclear production can scale up and deplace coal. I personally think wind and solar can scale up much faster economically and socially and more easily deplace coal and gas than nuclear could in the b

Seems silly, that often its 40% of the market that companies are willing to leave to competitors for relatively tiny development costs.

All no, but quite a bit, in our prototype for our next gen codebase. Was quite nice because we had a lot of 'legacy' JSPx code that we transformed into JS code using a bit of one off programming with some clean up afterwards.

That's about half an hour at a not that fast 25 knots. 30 minutes from a city center. For any coastal city, that is likely to be no worse as the time to get to an intercontinental airport. Still means about 2h00 from NYC to Shangai, d

Not as much as before, because the cost of cable to hold down the turbine is the only thing that gets more expensive with deeper water (the part connecting the floater to the "bolt"). These cables are relatively cheap. The other o

The worst Oracle can do is to stop investing resources in improving it. There are wide range of other sources that you can get a JVM from. Ranging from big IBM, to smaller players like Azul (zing or zulu), RedHat, Excelsior, JamaicaVM from

Yes all correct. Those top 'tip' speeds where reached with smaller turbines as well. Max tip speed is a design limitation on blades (induced vibrations due to turbulence). What it means is that small turbines had much higher RPM,

Not so much, as you might expect for a demo like this. 40 million euro should get you from concepts as by the startup list to competing for tenders on wind farms. That is in comparison to monopile or jackets off-shore.
