Yep. Sadly, the only way to be one hundred percent sure your data is private is to keep it in your head. Even building your own chipsets and other components doesn't protect from physical access. So we have to choose who to trust. Curr

I don't think it's impossible. Can't you intercept the traffic via a router or something to see what's in it? "...what they'll say..." They already said that in their privacy policy. I was wondering if the

A couple days for a conference. From what I've read in this topic and elsewhere, the cost of living is very high. I'd rather not live in a city with as much of a chance of an earthquake as SF has. Living in a known disaster area j

I wish people would do that. I know when I see jobs that interest me, they're almost always in SF or NYC. Neither location is somewhere I'd flourish. Seriously, what is the actual appeal of SF? I just don't see it.

If I were hosting an app that wouldn't require upgrading to up to date versions of whatever language it runs on, and I didn't want to upgrade the OS for 10 years or so, I'd look at CentOS. But with how rapidly PHP/Ruby&#

As a sysadmin I've used SLES, CentOS, and Ubuntu on my servers. As far as getting what I need to do done, Ubuntu wins every time. I have played with Debian on virtualbox vm's a bit, but it's never "just worked" for

Having had to clean up after "end users" a couple times, I certainly prefer to have the IT department have the final say. What kind of "i's" and "t's" are you referring to as a bad thing?

I think Kibana 4 is a node app, right? Like lmz says, you have to write a script to tell it to start at boot. I ended up using Monit for that, but if I didn't know about Monit, I'd end up having to write a custom init script. Oh,
