I use a macbook air all day for work. I built my windows box when I was doing .NET development, but I've long since switched to ruby -- ideally I'd like to have both running the same OS (which I guess could be a flavor of linux,

That's actually a huge help. What I've also been looking for (and haven't been able to find) is a good guide on How to Tune your GC settings. Aman Gupta has gotten the closest so far* (I think), but I'd really love a s

The "others can see info about me" is the value that I've landed on in my head. I don't recall ever getting a valuable message through the LinkedIn platform, but I will concede that there's possibly passive value

Honest question for the engineers/programmers in here that are also on LinkedIn: Have you gotten any value from LinkedIn? I realized a few weeks ago that 1) I have a LinkedIn account, 2) I make semi-regular updates to my LinkedIn accou

If you're on heroku (or similarly memory-constrained VPS), it's worth noting that 2.1+ can use significantly more memory. I've been collecting bookmarks on how to properly tune the GC environment variables in these situatio

Could they be using tape drives? This wikipedia entry says limits of 35TB were achieved in 2011 and limits of 185TB were achieved in 2014. The 2011 achievement wasn't expected to be commercially available for 10 years. Would that al

Completely agreed on the "lag in technology" -- couple that with the fact that even if you do manage to book a flight as an affiliate, most providers only give you a flat fee (as opposed to hotel affiliates which tend to give a pe

This is the first I've heard of Skyscanner, and they kind of get what I was going for, but I want more of a "set it and forget it" type of service -- something where I can enter in the closest airport and a list of cities I w

That's because "Tom's" is possessive in this case. The possessive form of "it" is "its" (no apostrophe). The way I remember it: if you can substitute "his" or "hers" for "it

Interesting. Thanks. From some brief reading on wikipedia, I wonder if they chose SDHC to avoid any (patent) issues with the exFAT file system. Kinda seems like a shame. 32 GB is quite a lot, but for HD video, it seems like it could fill

Are there technical/practical limitations that prevent it from reading microSD cards above 32 GB? I'm mostly asking out of curiosity, as 64 GB seems fairly inexpensive on Amazon...

I came here to say the exact same thing. After having worked on/scaled an API that served >100k requests per minute, I feel I can say with some experience that defining your JSON in your model is a very bad idea. A classic example t
