As I replied a few minutes ago - it absolutely will be a cross platform application using web technologies. It remains to be seen how it'll be bundled (likely using PhoneGap, I suspect) so at that point most of the major platforms are feasi

"Hopefully the iPad is just a kickoff point." That's precisely it. Being who I am, I'm going to be building everything with Open Web technologies and most likely built on top of jQuery Mobile. The iPad is just serving as a good initial plat

The issue has been fixed and integrated into the current build of jQuery: http://code.jquery.com/jquery-git.js We're going to have a 1.6.1 release within the week. Thank you for your bug report!

A reduced bug report would be good. We haven't seen any reports of this elsewhere (and the jQuery test suite runs to completion in IE 6) so I'm not entirely sure what could be happening here. Any insight you can provide (and a bug report)

Which changes (I assume, to .attr()) are affecting you, in particular?
128.
▲
by

Probably - but that's mostly due to the fact that .val() does more to ensure that the value being returned is useful (such as turning selected options into arrays, etc.).

Browsers have two concepts for "data that's attached to an element". There are traditional attributes, for example: <input type="text"/> - doing .getAttribute("type") will get you "text". Additionally there is the concept of DOM obj

I think you may be, severely, over estimating the quality of contributions that come in from random people to large projects hosted on Github. The pull request process tends to be highly iterative. Someone sends in the request, we send back

While --no-ff is certainly useful it doesn't really do anything to clean up the stream of the (most likely, redundant) pull request. Pulley reduces it to a single commit instead (which I, and other contributors to jQuery, tend to prefer) an

Hey all! jQuery 1.5.2 was just a quick bug fix release that we wanted to get out while we work on jQuery 1.6 (first beta due out in a couple weeks). If you're curious to see what's happening to make the upcoming release possible you can see

This was discussed a bit in the Hacker News thread after last blog post but I continue to feel that bloom filters aren't particularly useful here. Since any solution I use would require no errors it would mean that I'd have to place the blo

It was rather unglamorous - just loading the JavaScript string via Ajax and evaluating. I ran it on my iPhone 4 running iOS 4.3. Simple test is here: https://github.com/jeresig/trie-js/blob/master/load.html

I looked into bloom filters after someone commented as such on my last post. I guess the possibility of false positives makes me a bit jumpy. I realize that it can be reduced with larger data structures but that prospect doesn't make me ter

Ah yes - you're very right! I'm tempted to try fiddling around with a simple binary search across the string just to see what sort of performance characteristics it generates. I imagine that the result would be comparable to doing a Trie lo

"A way to make the plain string search faster would be to use binary search." Isn't that premature optimization, though? As I noted in my post - lookups, even in the worst case, take less than a millisecond. Presumably someone could do that

Thanks for the Trie suggestion! I’ll do a follow-up post and talk about that specifically. Note that this post was mostly written to get people thinking about practical forms of optimization (that hopefully transcend dictionaries themselves

I'm not really sure what you're responding to, specifically. You do realize that jQuery UI (and jQuery Mobile) are both ARIA compliant, right? This means that it's actually far easier to use these UIs then you might expect. ARIA is very coo

jQuery is not 238KB in any form that you would ship to a user. It is a 29KB minified and gzipped - which is a world of difference and perfectly acceptable for mobile use (likely smaller than most images you'll be using on your site, for exa
