At first I thought the book was trolling me, but then I sat down and worked through a few of the pages on paper and realized that there were interesting tricks behind them.

Except it's really hard to benchmark on ARMv8 since non-Apple hardware is expensive.

80-bit floats are just annoying and non-portable, and doesn't even help in the case mentioned. But double-double representation is nice and portable. Also, if you need 200 significant digits, you're probably doing something wrong.

To the first question, any sufficiently advanced technology/society is indistinguishable from magic. To the second, not that much really. If there were no social consequences, my choices might have been different.

I think it's a really hard question, I would change gender if a magician could do it with no ill effects. But I wouldn't consider myself transgender, and I think it would be unfair to count me or John as part of that group. On the

Cross-compilation is functional, and it's how you would bootstrap it. But in theory you could also bootstrap from the old compiler written in ocaml, but that would take ages due to needing a gazillion builds of rustc.

Sorry, no. I live in Malmö, so I don't go to Stockholm that often. But if you're looking to put out a job ad where all the meetups in Malmö are, just prod Michael Tiberg @ http://www.foocafe.org/ . He coordinates s

Go to systems programming meetups, in Malmö there's Rust Skåne and C++ folk at least. Gothenburg and Stockholm probably has meetups as well.

Boringly enough, the actual messages exist on the mailing list, like http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/bug-bash/2014-05/msg00057.... They just don't get sent to git for some reason.

I doubt it is 25 operation super-scalar, it most likely is a 25-issue VLIW. Elbrus has been doing them for a long while[1]. I doubt it will be fast on translated code, but Transmeta could do x86-to-VLIW translation reasonably 10 years ago,

The notifications are cool, but as implemented they seem way too spammy. Even the demo account with just a few search phrases has over a hundred notifications from the last 24h. Also, on the demo account, search volumes don't show up?

Asa Dotzler answered me about that on Twitter, "Battery life is pretty solid. I'm getting at least a couple of days of active use out of the Flame between charges."

Probably due to rules and regulations on what mobile terminals are allowed to be sold in the country, the site mentions some certifications, but I have no idea what JATE or TELEC's certifications are.

I don't like DRM, but Mozilla isn't forcing it down your throat either. How is a plugin (the Adobe EME thingy) that isn't installed by default that you can download to decode encrypted video, worse than the current situation

Yeah, throwing out the Wiring methods and implementing more idiomatic ones in Rust shouldn't be hard. I wrote it during an after work hackathon, so I didn't really have time to make it both working and nice unfortunately.

LLVM doesn't target the AVR processors, and while there is a avr-llvm backend, I think it is still very early in the development cycle. It is quite possible that you could get it to work with some effort, but it is a lot more complex t
