BASIC was ideal for introducing a generation of school kids to programming. Back in the 80’s you fired up your computer and you had a readily-available interpreter for which you could immediately do ‘real’ stuff like printing characters any

I’ve also seen this with the two sentence blurb about TV series episodes on streaming and broadcasting services. Eg, I was really pissed off seeing Sky TV spoil Game of Thrones like this. I browsing TV schedule one night to see was on, and

Seconding your at two bullets. Have had several incidents with dangerous cyclists ignoring zebra crossings (where pedestrians have right of way), even when I’ve been pushing a baby in the pushchair. Seems to be getting worse now with the e-

I demonstrated 3D printing of metals using dynamic stencil deposition in a thermal evaporation chamber during my PhD about 18 years ago. Separate comment has details.

During my Physics PhD I essentially built a nanoscale 3D printer using a piezo actuator mounted in the vacuum chamber of a thermal evaporator. I made a “shadow mask” of a suspended silicon nitride film through which I punched a hole using a

Thanks for this. “New Wave” as a genre has never really felt well-defined for me, similar to the “Indie Rock” genre back in the 90’s.

My chemistry teacher was good like that. Sadly my HS physics teacher often gave us unreasonable values on homeworks and exams so you couldn’t sanity check easily. Eg - a kangaroo jumps 245 meters high, or the barrel of a gun is 1.5 kilometr

I had some fun back in College in the 90’s cutting out articles from Weekly World News and tacking them to the bulletin board just outside the physics library. This board was full of cutouts of interesting real science articles, regularly

Just to respond to your city charging comment, I live in London and had my Model Y for almost a year. We have many on-street charging stations around town, which I use regularly. Sure it’s not as convenient as having either my own home char

I’ve been wondering about this and real video evidence (eg dashcam or cctv) being refuted in court for inability to show it’s not deepfaked.

Amazon’s not unique here. I once rented a car and after returning it the guy who inspected the car was very excited to tell me there was no damage so I get my full deposit back, and I should be thanking him. But was no damage at all, so it’

On a similar note I’ve long thought that larger heavier vehicles should pay more for insurance, as a sort of “danger tax” to cover the greater damage they tend to cause in collisions.

I’ve found much leverage by giving a choice to my kids in an orthogonal dimension. Eg : “I don’t want to eat broccoli with dinner!” “Well, would you rather eat it on the pink plate or the blue plate?” Maybe I’m missing something or likely I
