Any story about income equality that neglects the distribution of income and wealth within the top 1%, isn't providing the whole picture. If you segment that group by ~.1%, you'll see a graph that reveals more about the fundamen

On a Mac, I’m fairly certain you can symlink Safari’s favicon db to /dev/null. That should take care of it. I remember doing this years ago.

Well I wonder if the alternative to cookies, the QUIC HTTP/3 Connection Migration IDs, are an end run around ad blockers, MAC spoofing, and other forms of anti-tracking measures. No way Google is going to make it harder to track people

All of this presupposes the current flavor of programatic advertising is something worth protecting. IMO, the cost of the current targeting methods -factoring in the actors and practices of the attached data economy- is simply not worth it.

So are the QUIC HTTP/3 Connection Migration IDs and end run around ad blockers and MAC spoofing, and other forms of anti-tracking measures? Long ago, I read these IDs are persistent across networks, etc.

LMAO. Love the consumer friendly positioning of the group. If at least two of the founding members weren’t data over-reachers, this might be good theater. As things are, these folks cannot claim they represent my best interests.

I dunno. There are simple solutions to the issues raised in the blog post, many good ones here in the comments. Seems likely they wanted to get rid of third party logins and oddly chose to throw it on Apple. And I’m not sure anyone, includi

And IBM has been selling the data from these weather apps for a long time. I wouldn’t want to be a part of this: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/03/technology/weather-channe...

I’m surprised that some combination of Canvas, SVG, CSS and JavaScript hasn’t replaced Flash. This is established tech and fairly simple. This combo also makes responsiveness easier, IMO.

It's hard to hear people object to Google on moral or ethical grounds when they don't mention the fallout from programmatic advertising. Google pioneered this technology, which has had an impact on both our security and privacy, a

I’m more concerned that the http/3 Connection Migration ID, proposed by Google via the QUIC spec and operating at a lower level, will create a persistent tracking mechanism, regardless of the application in use.
