2001.09.26? Don't go to college, at least not for computer science as you planned. You'll grow to hate it, you will never work in the field, and the loans will haunt you. Write more, love more, exercise more, run away. Far, far away. This i

On the first idea: I have an idea on how to indicate the value of a discussion. After comments, list a "buzz: " value that is the sum of all upvotes in the comments. This works as an indication of how people feel about the contents of the c

Radio pays far more per song than Internet streamers do. Running a radio station is $x/song, on the web it's $x/song/listener. (Radio stations cost lots to set up up front, web radio costs kick in when you get bigger, but until then you'd h

Ahhh, sorry then. Don't be afraid to cold email people though. It's not the best, but it's better than nothing. Good luck though!

Or maybe they used some automatic translation tool and it was posted automatically when the foreign language version was posted?

I used to work at a TV station. Do you have a question about something, or are you looking to get press? (In which I would be useless.)

The topic reminds me of a presentation by Mark Pesce: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxCoCTc3T5Q In it he talks about how piracy has helped some shows, and alternate forms of publishing (physical media, online). Keep in mind that he's spe

Interesting, but I have to question just how much skin those giving the loans have in the game, given a large and growing part of student loans aren't public and subsidized by taxpayers, but private. And they can't be dropped by bankruptcy.

I sometimes suspect the same about 3d printing, but I think the comparison to VR is funny given recent rumors about the next Xbox being shipped with the next version of the Kinnect as standard. Sure, we're not wearing goggles, but otherwise

I actually consider everything tired to my account name a plus, as I can log in anywhere and get it. No secondary market, however, is the downside associated with that. And offline is way better than it used to be. Is it still problematic?

True; they still do a minimum to keep people honest, but all those methods, to my knowledge, are already defeated if you look around. Their stick is making piracy annoying to do, along with the carrot of a long reputation of good games.

I wonder if the rights holders filed DMCA takedown notices before trying to get the site taken down? If they did or didn't, would that affect their role, in your estimation?

I understand how it could seem that way, but consider the math. If they caused $500M in lost sales, and EVERY illegal download is a lost sale, then with 50M users a day, if everyone was downloading $1 songs, they only had about ten days of

Exactly, the guy saw his profile being raised and instead of saying "I'm not getting paid, let me litigate" he said "How can I be smart and work this to my favor?" My porn pitch would've been: Add a streaming video component where people ca

I don't know if that's a "problem", it's just piracy. I think the abandonware scene is what film would look like with shorter copyright. Well, and non-traditional sequels and remakes may have actual budgets...

I don't think that's the flipside to my point. I think the flipside to your point would be "why have IP protection at all? It's an idea in my head now, why should someone else have control over that and my ability to execute it?" And I don'

US manufacturing output has never been higher; the US is not losing manufacturing capabilities. We're losing jobs. We're hiring fewer people and making more product value than ever before.
