This is a pretty cool idea. One thing that would make it more useful to me, though much more difficult to implement, is that when you click a reused value, it store a reference to that result, so if you change the calculations for that resu

One difference is that the Rochester Subway operated for almost 30 years [1]. Interestingly enough, it was actually used as a freight railroad until 1996. It is easy to walk right down into, with two different public access points that have

That's definitely the future. I work for a company whose major goal is to make that job disappear, and do most employee onboarding and other annoying HR documents tasks online, mostly automatically. We do payroll, and integrate with va

I think with C++ it is much easier to shoot yourself in the foot, but overall, I think it's probably mostly just ecosystem between the C++ and Java. Having tried both Rust and Go, I think I'd much prefer Go for simple web dev stuf

Social Security is 6.2% and Medicare is 1.45%. However, these taxes are currently being paid for by the contractors in the form of self employment tax, so it's not really a huge change there though. Worker's comp is going to range

The tax differences aren't huge. There is a 7.65% tax that would switch from being paid by the contractor to paid by the employer, and likely some kind of state unemployment tax, which is often industry dependent. The biggest differenc

As a swimmer, I was much faster underwater with fins than above water, up to a distance where I needed to breathe more than once a lap (~ 100 yards).

In freestyle some part of the swimmer must still break the surface by the 15m mark. Otherwise, people would probably go farther for shorter distance events (50 and 100).

This is basically because Zenefits and ADP indirectly compete. ADP, Paychex and some other major payroll providers make quite a bit of money be using their relationships with companies to sell insurance and other benefits to their customers

I'd guess that what he means is that an attacker who compromises one micro service may not end up compromising all of them, whereas if they compromise a monolith, they have access to everything.

I work remotely. This past winter I traveled to visit some family in a warm place. I spent the nicer days off, and enjoying my locale, and the not so nice days working as usual. It's a nice way to only take 2 days off from work but act

Chrome's stability greatly improved for me when I disabled Flash. I'd really like to switch to Firefox, but there's a few things I just can't seem to get used to every time I try to.

Unfortunately squashing doesn't help as much as I'd hoped as the performance problem is in the loader (executing migrations is pretty quick). It can also get tricky with interdependencies between apps. Turning off migrations is gr

My biggest issue with django right now is the speed of the migrations since 1.7. At work, we have a project with around 30 apps and 170 interrelated migrations. It takes 2-3 minutes to run all the migrations, which have to happen at the beg

I agree, and I stand no benefit in job security from not having the IRS do it. The IRS will assume that the entire 1099-B is income, even though your cost basis (and therefore actual income) is right on the form. That said, I'd love to

I had the same thought reading the article, but after some thought, I doubt it. Grid transmission can be as low as 0.5% per 100 miles already. Batteries lose about 10% of the energy by storing it, that leaves you with needing to go at least

Yes, traffic is far different outside of the most congested cities. I live in a "city" of 250k with about 1.2M including suburbs and surrounding areas. Bad traffic might add 20 minutes to your commute.

I work on a team of three that has a project slightly larger than you 100k-110K LOC (and growing by about 5k LOC a week), we've managed to keep test coverage at about 95%, and have found it's worth the investment upfront, as it ma

Many "Unlimited" providers would be unhappy if you were sending 10s of messages per second for sustained periods of times. Ting charges $6/device plus $0.0025 per message.

The Chrome only aspect is touched upon in the article. They are using the requestFileSystem() API, which only works on Chrome. I'm not sure why they couldn't have used a more standard means of storing data.
