Ads that are not targeted don't have such huge impact on you as the targeted ones and therefor they don't trick you to buy something you don't need as easily which is good for you and the environment.

It's pretty easy, if the person disappears, are the goods/services still provided? If so, then that person did not do anything which constituted work.

Exploitation of labour is one of the basic concepts in capitalism. It is a social relationship based on an asymmetry in a power relationship between workers and their employers. Therefor it is independent of the fact if you love or hate you

I was considering it too and I don't understand why Google doesn't force the creators to mark up when the ads start and end so it could just jump over them for people who pay YouTube Premium to specifically get rid of ads. People

It's not like advertisers pay for the services from their own money. They 'basically' force you to buy the stuff which they advertise and take that money to pay the service.

I don't believe you would. It's more probable that you'd install that proprietary application to get the features which standard git lacks at that time.

ActivityPub is the distributed notification system you talk about and yes it's a solved problem. It's already used for Twitter and Instagram like content, see Mastodon and Pixelfed.

I guess GitHub right now is like Facebook was in 2012, everybody is on it, it's a super vibrant community, it's backed by a huge amount of money, it locks you in (at least with wiki, issues, URLs). And a second guess is that it wi

I don't think that people are drawn to the specific github implementation (code), it's that they're drawn to github.com the domain where you can't do what you propose.

Your commit messages don't explain why stuff is happening. That might be ok for a private git repo, but once you have different teams working on it over several years it's not good enough.
