Even though Piknik has mostly replaced scp for me, scp is here to stay. It remains the easiest way to transfer things between trusted machines that you already have ssh access to.

On m68k my favorite instruction was MOVEM, which was similar except that we had to provide a register range. MOVEM was the key to fast buffer->screen copies.

For some context, the company behind this is planning to launch a satellite in Earth orbit where anyone can develop, test and upload software on: https://exodusorbitals.com/

The self-hosted compiler is only going to be for debug builds AFAIK.

In spite of its currently growing adoption, my prediction is that Rust will be replaced in a foreseeable future. Rust brought a novel idea to the landscape of programming languages. The borrow checker is a great invention, and a great contr

Alacritty is slower than the standard terminal, has none of the nice features of iTerm, doesn't even support tabs.

In these big companies, one can find pretty much any language being used somewhere. Rust as a language is mature and pretty stable. However, the ecosystem... not so much. Pretty much every crate is still at version 0.x, with breaking change

The same thing is happening with Rust. Many Rust crates are very difficult to understand and use, due to them using tons of abstractions. Macros don’t help either. As people get more and more familiar with Rust, they write more and more cod

I've been writing Rust code since before the 1.0 days, and I still can't understand lifetimes in practice. When the compiler starts complaining about lifetimes issues, I tend to make everything clone()able (either using Rc, or Arc

The best way for QEMU (or anything) to keep improving is to have it written using the languages and tools that the actual maintainers are the most comfortable with. People suggesting rewrites in X/Y/Z are usually not people mainta

Take a look at Zig. https://ziglang.org/ It fixes most of the C mistakes, while still giving programmers tight control over the system.

My experience is completely the opposite. Go is excellent for cross-compilation. The same compiler can compile to a lot of platforms out of the box, and making portable applications requires very little to no platform-specific code. Go'

I've been using Alacritty for a while, but eventually got back to the standard Terminal.app and iTerm. The former feels snappier (and is probably GPU-accelerated as well anyway), looks better and comes out of the box. The later has way

Interesting project, but since this seems to be limited to Rust, what’s the point of WebAssembly, instead of writing JS extensions directly in Rust?
