Nightly versions of Zig now include LLVM 13.0.0. So you can already use it to easily compile and cross-compile code (Zig, but also C and C++) to many targets including WebAssembly and Apple Silicon, using LLVM 13.

This is amazing. However, the lack of language servers hardly make it a replacement for a desktop install of VSCode. Writing Rust code without RLS, or Zig code without ZLS is not a great experience.

There’s also a ffmpeg port to WebAssembly that can be used from Rust: https://github.com/jedisct1/rust-ffmpeg-wasi or linked to a Zig project targeting WebAssembly: https://github.com/jedisct1/tiny

Looks like the 1.0 tag is only about the Rust implementation. The Changelog only lists Rust things. The algorithm itself hasn't changed, which is great!

Only for freestanding webassembly. In order to target WASI, you have to install the builtins ( https://github.com/jedisct1/libclang_rt.builtins-wasm32.a ), as well as the WASI libc, and fiddle with `—-sysroot`. Zig can t

Be careful with ASAN on cryptographic code, though. It can introduce side channels.

`zig cc` is also amazing to compile C and C++ code to WebAssembly. For standalone WebAssembly or WASI. No need to install yet another toolchain, this is just another target Zig can compile to, out of the box.

The easiest way to compile C code to WebAssembly is by using Zig ( https://ziglang.org ): zig cc -target=wasm32-wasi and you’re done. Nothing else to install. It is equally easy to cross-compile to another platform, against withou

Same here. C gives a lot of control, and makes it easy to map code to what the CPU will actually do. If you like C, you should really try Zig. Same simplicity and control, but really nice improvements to make code easier to read and maintai
