WebAssembly has different ambitions than Flash. It is meant to be become similar to an operating system, whereas Flash was a very specialized tool. TinyGo and Zig can generate .wasm files out of the box.

The priorities seem to have shifted, with most standardization efforts being focused on running WebAssembly on the server, rather than web browsers. Flutter and Blazor are exceptions, but they had to reinvent everything their own way. Regar

To a French speaker, the project name sounds like “Go kill yourself” (creve). The concept is great, but the name is insulting.

Zig does a really good job at finding bugs in LLVM every time the LLVM version is updated. And Zig developers also do a very good job at reporting and fixing them. Which is why contributing to Zig also means contributing to LLVM.

Very cool stuff! And exactly what I was looking for when hitting compiler errors in Zig. Thank you!

From a privacy perspective, OAuth/OIDC are also terrible. It would be possible to achieve the same thing in a privacy-preserving way, and without breaking current deployments; EL PASSO https://arxiv.org/pdf/2002.10

Is it still zero cost if the price to pay is a steep increase of code complexity? The current model also still requires a lot of boxing and cloning, so it is far from being “zero cost” as advertised.

I abandoned some projects due to that as well. That, and constant breaking changes in major libraries such as `hyper`. Maintaining Rust code is expensive. More than completing the first iteration of a project. Language such as Go or C are b

Traits, generics, lifetimes, macros and endless, and incomprehensible backtraces when using Futures already makes it more complex. Rust is difficult to read and maintain, due to the common use of abstractions over abstractions over abstract

And Zap (scheduler for Zig) is already faster than Tokio. Zig and other recent languages have been invented after Rust and Go, so they could learn from them, while Rust had to experiment a lot in order to combine async with borrow checking.

If Rust had to be rewritten from scratch today, it would probably be done differently, learning from experience since it was invented. Cargo, macros, const generics and `#[cfg]` wouldn’t exist any more, replaced with comptime evaluation. Th
