I mean, it's designed to capture telemetry and push it into Azure for IT to figure out whats going on in the enterprise. It isn't aimed at consumers.

Its (unfortunately) missing 90% of the functionality of Excel. It’s somewhat like saying “I don’t use Java, but what’s wrong with JavaScript”. One of these days either Excel for Windows will work with Wine or they’ll get it working in a bro

They did that because grandma knows to go to internet explorer for the internet, and won’t ever click on Edge unless forced to (even though she doesn’t get security updates for IE). Your IT department can tell Edge to open intranet sites in

1Password grabs the clipboard whenever I open the app, whether or not I'm even in a text field. Can't think of why it needs to do that..

Because its so hard to use that nobody can really explain it. Is it a share drive in the cloud? Not really, but it can kind of do that. Is it an application platform like Salesforce? Kind of. Is it a project management system? It sure can b

Deploying the CRUD securely is a problem, though. Things like this and AirTable are entirely managed by their developers and your IT department, and Excel sheets can just be dropped into an email. If I write a cool python script, how is the

You can make custom packages yourself and upload them, but there's no information on how to remediate that with the packages that Fleetsmith themselves already installed (that I saw).

The app clips still have to go through app review and the user is asked for consent before it is downloaded and launched. You also have to create them as part of a full app in the App Store (although for the restaurant ordering scenario, Gr

Fleetsmith disabled their entire third-party app catalog this morning and disabled Bash scripting (that was reenabled 15 minutes ago), breaking workflows for a bunch of users (and, according to the MacAdmins slack, tons of end users got ran

As usual, there is a way to disable this if you can apply GPO or registry tweaks. GPO: After installing[0] the Edge Group Policies (because of course they aren't included with the installer!), set the "Automatically import another

You should be able to, since everything Docker runs inside of a Linux VM. You don't get to use Rosetta though (since it's a macOS thing), and the performance may be poor.

A hypothetical Chrome Inc. (or Chrome Foundation) could make its money off of selling rights to the search bar (hypothetically to Google anyway), and, I suppose, donations. Enterprise support would be another thing they'd have to provi

Docker on ARM will work, Docker for x86 will not. The State of the Union showed a demo of Hypervisor.framework with Parallels, and they made it clear that Debian AArch64 was running (uname -a). Since Docker runs inside a VM on the Mac, it&#

To show off their frontend stuff, they left all of the JS available on https://app.hey.com without logging in. I think they plan on open-sourcing their improvements into new updates to Rails and turbolinks, eventually. If you&#x

Apple had a list at the State of the Union of open source technology projects they had built pull requests for to add ARM support. Electron was up there, as was Python 3, OpenJDK and Go, notably.

The emulation thing seemed to me to be Hypervisor.framework for ARM, as they showed Linux and Docker running (which both run on ARM), but not Windows (which an average user may be more interested in).

That's a fair comparison though, if you're a Mac user and this machine is twice as fast and gets 5 more hours on a charge, you'll probably be persuaded to upgrade. If you aren't a Mac user I don't think they need to

Well, there __is__ In-App Purchase support, but it only works if your IP is in the 17.0.0.0/8 block. We put it in because we knew it was very important to Apple ;)

The rule that business-targeted apps and consumer-targeted apps are subject to different IAP rules is not in the App Store Review Guidelines. Basecamp asked them why Hey was blocked and Basecamp was not, they were given that as a response.

They specifically didn't know though. Basecamp is distributed without an option to buy a subscription via IAP, and never has had that option. If you do not have a Basecamp account, you get little more than the logo smiling back at you.
