But Tesla is starting from scratch, not decades of experience. Provided they can learn and improve quickly they should hopefully be more competitive soon.

Very true. That's a pretty strong statement for Techcrunch; they could go from a one-man blog to a blog/event and now hardware "empire" in just 4-5 years. Even if the tablet is crap, that's quite an accomplishment.

Completely agree. The truly big test for Apple would really come 12-18 months after Steve's departure, when the product development pipeline matures. If they're able to keep the same "magic" with or without Steve, then it proves that he b

It sounds pretty vague to me. For being a press release about his health, it doesn't really say much. (Not that it should reveal everything, but horomone imbalance is vague.)

I did an aero undergrad, ended up in the nuclear field (running reactors & such). While I'm not a strict software "hacker", I mess around enough to hold my own here. So yes, there are others!

"Anyone's welcome who has interesting things to say." This is why HN is the best news site for tech news anywhere. I'm like Furqan (the author), a bit of a mutt, and have enjoyed reading and participating here.

Their big test will be the first launch of the Falcon 9 rocket early next year. It took 4 launches for a completely successful Falcon 1 launch; hopefully they'll have even quicker success with Falcon 9.

I'm the guy who modeled 37signals revenue. You can download a spreadsheet with all my calculations if you follow the link above... I would appreciate any feedback from those who have experience in the area to improve my assumptions.

Not only does it bring massive swings in expectations, but I'm assuming that it brings massive swings in product development cycles, too. Better to bring new products out when you think they're ready than according to a pre-defined conferen

Very cool. Back in college our final assignment was a GA to find the best trajectory for a hypothetical space mission. (You had to go by particular planets in particular windows in time.) It was great fun playing around with it.
