Thanks for the warning, but I figure by posting it broadly here (and having full record of every change I've made within Google Docs) I shouldn't have a problem with the University. Of course, it helps that I shared it first with my adviso

Hi, Paul, and thank you for the clarifications. (They'll be reflected in the final version.) I would presume that Y Combinator wouldn't have been as successful without your body of writing, but that without Y Combinator your writing wouldn

Doh... and very true. Typically when I have the content 90%+ set I turn it over to my wife who does free-lance copy-editing, where this stuff gets picked up. Obviously I haven't done that yet! The final version should be much more gramm

In addition to the bad music (something hamster-dance-related perhaps), you also need a variety of pop-unders.

It was definitely up and running before he applied to YC. Since then he's also launched a music startup, but I'm guessing that's not part of YC. (Can't remember the URL, though.)

It's an opinion piece in the opinion section. That means it's likely not hard facts (otherwise it'd be in the news sections). It's a fairly emotional piece in an outlet where this likely hasn't been seen before. Even though we have heard

I'm not sure why this is so important; it's a bit of a fluff/filler piece. Every major software company hoards cash. MSFT, GOOG, APPL, everybody. So Apple's got a lot of cash... so what? It's a lot of cash, but they've been doing well lat

I was mainly trying to point out the strength (and resources) of the angels in Cambridge. I agree that Cambridge VCs tend not to be interested in the less hard-tech investments that are usually found in Seedcamp and similar programs.

Cambridge is only 45 minutes from London by train, and London does already have Seedcamp. If you're early stage, Cambridge makes a lot of sense. Low living expenses, and a TON of angel money is around. A good number of the angels have the

That's fair, but my goal is to develop a framework for thinking about new and different programs. (Partly so that people stop blindly copying YC.) The companies that are interested in these programs today are likely to be the same audience

I think USAA got started because the military used to get ripped off on car insurance all the time. They then expanded into banking, etc. I'm all for a "USAA for the rest of us" and would love to be a customer.

I've been a USAA member for 10 years now, and they have always been a fantastic and innovative bank. The fact they don't have branches has forced them to do business differently, and for the better!

There's a lot of value in being a central storehouse for a LOT of data, in my opinion. Combine that with tools to easily do the comparisons (correlations, regressions, etc.) between different sets of data then adds a huge amount of value t

I completely agree with IM; I avoid it if at all possible. There's too much of a time lag between responses so it seems slow, but because it's live it's very hard to turn my attention away. Email I can at least deal with on my own terms.

A lot of people have been tripped up by this, and it's a VERY important distinction. I hope Netflix posts more about the final (Test) results from each when they officially announce the winner.

For justin.tv, which cohort were you a part of? The summer 06 or winter 07? (I'm going by that, since the actual founding dates don't always correlate to YC cohort.) Thank you very much for the corrections.
