Why would inflating the number of impressions matter at all when Google makes money from clicks?

I was the one who did that analysis. I updated it at the end of 2008 here: http://blog.jedchristiansen.com/2008/12/04/estimating-37sign... My model was largely based on a few key numbers they had published and a general freemium business

I love that Old Spice created video replies to people in near real-time. That's real interaction with a brand. I love that Tipp-Ex had the creativity to put together a whole ton of funny clips ahead of time, and leave people to discover th

I'm really curious how many of these videos there are! I did get a couple of 404's, but there are a lot of distinctly different and funny clips.

This sounds vaguely similar to one of my favourite phrases: "Argue like you're right; listen like you're wrong."

Having grown up in the States and lived in London for nearly seven years, I have to agree. It's not that UK supermarkets don't have choice, it's that US supermarkets are spoiled for choice. I mean, I went back home and saw a WALL of bread,

Like I said, I see the two business models very differently. My personal theory is that there is a LOT more potential revenue for Gmail in the enterprise. (Google tried and largely failed in the internal enterprise search market.) Each sm

Please see my other comment here: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1628381 In a nutshell, Gmail business model != Google Search business model. Therefore, the relative importance of revenue streams is different.

Huh? Rapportive got 10k installs in 24 hours just because an early tester happened to send one tweet about it. (And surely many, many more since then.) That doesn't happen unless you've got a hot product, so I don't understand the sentime

"a revenue driver" seems to be the key phrase here to me. Specifically, Gmail business model != Google Search business model To me, killing Gmail ads doesn't necessarily kill the Gmail business model. I would think Gmail is a strategic to

I've found that Google likes users that are engaged with their products, whether it's search, Gmail, or any of the other tons of products. Search is only valuable for Google because a lot of people use it. Surely Gmail is more valuable the

The chances of becoming a billionaire are even more slim than what the OP wrote. A number of billionaires become billionaires by inheritance or just modest growth of existing wealth. (Compared to NBA stars, who all have to prove themselve

That's what I'd expect. They're only still in the early market penetration stage of the Ruby market; it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to complicate their product offering. (Particularly when App Engine is available for Python/Java.)

I think after the whole Judy Miller and similar scandals the NYTimes has a policy of always disclosing the reason why anonymous sources are anonymous, even if those reasons are a bit pedantic.
