Unstable pricing?? App Engine pricing stayed the same for years, then made a big shift as it officially came out of preview. Yes, it was a big change, but it's only happened once. I'm a novice developer using App Engine and while there are

I just started using Pocket, and have found it a much nicer experience than Instapaper all around. This reminds me to take the Instapaper button off my bookmarks bar...

I served in the US Navy for six years, spending three of those as a submarine officer. Even though I've never seen a shot fired, I've been in some hairy situations. Steve's message is the same thing that I took from my experiences, and why

And I think the solid relationships with big publishers is the big part that's hard to replicate. That said, you could probably more easily approach smaller (more local?) publishers that are more willing to experiment to get traction. Is t

It's an early start (I hesitate to even talk about it here since it's such early days), but I put together Seed-DB ( http://www.seed-db.com ) for all accelerators; YC and all the rest. I'm a day or two behind on updates because of work trav

So their biggest competitor is Anybots, but they're funded (through YC) by Anybot's founder and going through YC in the same physical space as Anybots? It strikes me that the main axis of competition is simply price. Otherwise it just seem

I don't agree with your logic of Sales/Ops guy -> "all strategic decisions will be made by Google and passed down to the subsidiary". Dennis Woodside is a very respected and capable executive at Google. He's the kind of guy that woul

I'm the guy who created Seed-DB, where the data comes from for this post. The biggest caveat is that I currently only get data from Crunchbase on funding and number of employees, and there are a lot of gaps where companies haven't updated t

PG originally made the comment in this thread http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4291075 on Seed-DB. I launched Seed-DB earlier today ( http://www.seed-db.com ) where you can find these data points for all companies that have been throug

I get funding data from Crunchbase; I hope by being transparent with Seed-DB it helps improve data quality there, too. (Though I also want founders to eventually be able to add it in themselves on Seed-DB.) If there's a missing exit, pleas

This is just the first step; I've got more planned to make this better. But I also believe that by publicizing this it will encourage accelerators to have their startups monitor/clean up their data on Crunchbase. (And I personally think th

It's my confidence level in the exit values. Only a few have been public or widely reported. The rest are purely my guesses. I wanted to put a High / Medium / Low confidence against each value. Looks like I should make this more clear in

It's on the site, but currently hidden because it's not a "seed accelerator" by the definition I use: http://www.seed-db.com/about/definition (Similarly, Seedcamp isn't shown on NESTA's Startup Factories site.) Basically, as I understand
