For those that want a trackpoint with mechanical keys and don't want to DIY it, I highly recommend a Tex Shinobi which has the SK-8855 Thinkpad keyboard layout. https://tex.com.tw/products/shinobi?variant=16969883

Yep! Well, kinda... I still use it at work but for any of my personal stuff at home or for my side projects I use Fedora CoreOS [1] with Butane YAML [2] which I template with Jinja2. Being able to define a VM with Butane and launch it quick

I only use Podman for my workloads these days. Docker was always a headache for me on Linux. Podman allows me to quickly do whatever I want with containers and I can use systemd or a simple bash script to easily create services on my workst

Podman 4.x is pretty great with docker-compose due to its API compat with Docker. Give it a shot.

I setup https://paperless-ngx.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ with a Brother ads2800w scanner and I no longer have a pile of paper mail sitting by my desk. I just scan it, tag it in Paperless-ngx, and then shred it. I j

I work at smallstep and we support a wide range of Linux distros already. https://smallstep.com/docs/step-cli/installation One of the things on my punch list is to get step CLI into upstream Fedora, Debian, and Ub

We should cheer on teams in big enterprise that are pushing to upgrade their tech stacks. I worked at a security company that pulled in security scanner data from enterprise companies and as you can guess the results are not great. Any upgr

It might not be. It maybe a workflow thing and a poor choice of words on my end. I have a few apps running on my workstation that I run in Podman pods that have similar service deps (PostgreSQL and MQTT etc). I don't have to worry abou

Podman has been one of my favorite opensource projects in the most recent years. I have been using it since 1.x and it keeps getting better and better. It is one of the tools that makes me not totally hate containers and I use it all over t

Give Fedora Linux a try. It has been my daily workstation professionally and personally since 2007ish. Fedora 34 is pretty fantastic for hitting the ground running after you install.

I know this the Pi home lab hardware ecosystem is not the datacenter ecosystem, but what I really want on a Pi is not TPM but IPMI for remote management.

Do you have any 2FA setup? My work uses Duo 2FA with 1Password and I had to kick my Duo account into bypass mode to log in. I opened a support ticket with 1Password and they said it is a known issue with Duo + 1Password.

A free API key is great, but what is the catch? The whole Robinhood drama about them selling data to third parties has me leery about anything "free" in finance SaaS.
