It's just as secure as keys as it is though. If you drop your physical keys they still work as keys and also can't be revoked.

My dell xps is super thin and it still has easily replaceable ram and battery. The massive use of glue, rivets, proprietary screws and cryptographic verification in macbooks is not for slimness but for planed obsolescence

There is no such thing as a cheap fix for an incredibly complex and proprietary device. You will have to pay a highly trained expert and hope they have stock left of the part.

They have been using an exploit that allows you to wipe out the Intel backdoor. Maybe that prevents them from updating.

Can't you just map that in software?

You don't by the phone just for the actual device. You buy it mainly to support the start of actually open source phones. If you wanted a cheap phone you could just by a second hand android phone for dirt cheap

Clearly that statement is false because some people bought the phone because people bought it for the OS

From what I heard it was far more complex than just picking some parts from a catalogue. They had to find parts that could all run on open source drivers and I think they even had to convince some vendors to open source the drivers first. I

It's still impossible to link that to an individual unless they sold it to another company that has more info on the address.

In this case it would not be PII data if it was just an IP address in a webserver log saying someone checked for an update. It would be PII data if it was linked to your GitHub account.

IP addresses are only PII if attached to other information. I can generate a list of IP addresses and store/sell that data and it's all fine because its meaningless without associated data.

Individual action is the only thing you have direct control over. Yes, governments need to change for success but it's better to do everything in your ability to improve rather than sit around and wait for change to happen. I think if

Meme culture has been massive this decade and it's not just online. I regularly see memes in street art or stickers on light posts. I also think it's just that we haven't had enough time to judge yet. In another 20 years when

It was rarely useful anyway. I saw some stats showing even with jQuery it was extremely unlikely users already had a copy of the version of jQuery from the same CDN cached.

Similar to how email works and has various options to secure it but the reality is no end users were benefiting from it. How many OSs have enabled by default encrypted DNS? Browsers should primarily focus on providing the most secure and pr

PoW is exactly the same. The rich can afford the most hardware and electicity. PoS just short circuits the burning power step. It's also the same as bank interest.

Browsers are the only ones actually willing to allow any change. If we wait for OSs to change nothing will ever happen. If it works well in browsers first then the OS will pick it up.

How could free domain names possibly work? Good domain names are scarce so of they were free someone could just write a script to register every good domain and then resell them. The yearly renewal fee means people tend to let go of domain

It doesn't suck. It's just a temporary discomfort. I feel like the discomfort is actually somewhat beneficial. When I get home after cycling on a really hot day I immediately take a shower and then feel great about how comfortable

People in America live in such a bubble and just think that anything that doesn't work in America can't possibly work at all. A common post on HN goes along the lines "trains are shit and could never be seriously used. I took

Riding an ebike in 39c is uncomfortable but not unthinkable. I do it semi regularly. If your trip is >10km it's not that bad at all. You will probably have to shower when you get home but it's still better than owning a car.

Almost all computing devices are broken when given physical access. And if they aren't it's just because someone hasn't worked it out yet or is broken secretly by governments.
