I didn't have to write Linux to benefit from an open platform. I didn't write openwrt either but benefit hugely from it.

Might as well call the PC a broken platform since you can install your own OS. Imo a platform is broken if the user can't control it.

At our office all of the macbooks have had to go back multiple times this year because of broken keyboards. And because of the way apple designs their laptops this means binning most of the laptop to fix a faulty key.

I use vscode even though I don't particularly like it. Imo rubymine is a better editor but vscode does 90% of the job while not costing $300/year.

That's not a fair comparison since most of the memory usage is just loading the app in to memory and then everyone is sharing the same app already loaded. Web apps don't have to be nearly as slow as they are. It's just that i

So you are saying that people may only own land if they work or live on the land? This is not desirable for most businesses where renting property makes much more sense since it gives them the flexability to expand or downsize. It is also n

By that logic you have to reject all property ownership entirely and modern society becomes totally unable to function since no one could ever build a building. I think the vast majority of us find the ability to own land to be more useful

That android should not be by default tracking every user and sending a of that data to google since most users aren't aware it is even happening and most users have no use for this data. They know where they have been.

I don't have any problems with security cameras that simply store their video for a few weeks and then delete it. In the case of a crime or other real need for the data the owner can pull that bit of video off. The problem comes with c

This is why mall cops and speeding fine issuers should not be armed like they are about to raid an organised crime hiding spot. It's astounding that some countries allow random security guards to have guns. Unless you are highly traine

I use Zim for work use. I find I don't actually need a mobile app since I don't really need to take anything more than temporary notes on my phone. The nice thing is it uses 17mb ram so I can leave it running all the time which is

Most of the materials from a panel should be recycleable. The bulk of the panel is an aluminium and glass wrapper over the solar cells. Glass and aluminium are very recycleable.

Basically all spinners on the web work by sending a request which causes the spinner to show up, waiting for a response which causes the spinner to be removed. Many of them don't handle errors which causes them to keep spinning. A stat

Dont use a spinner if it loads fast. One thing I have done is adding a little white box with the word "loading..." In it. Users don't have to wait for any animation to see what it means and it still looks fine for longer load

Selling unwanted gift cards online is a huge scammer magnet. I tried to sell a $50 card for $40 recently and wasted a bunch of time with people sending me fake PayPal confirmation messages. Thankfully all of the scammers were pretty stupid
