Windows isn't bad as an OS. It's just like Mac in that it just needs a handful of tweaks to make it usable. The underlying system is much more cluttered though , which can get overwhelming at first. But it's done mostly be

It's interesting how Facebook's target audience is nearing retirement age, but Meta is going full steam ahead with futuristic VR headset technology. It seems like a real clash of ideas, but I could see this working out well to con

I wish gnu/linux devs would pool their efforts occasionally. We have competing flatpak and snap efforts, with neither being all that good currently. Can we agree on a standard?

I lost faith in Rovio when they started advertising fake game footage on TikTok. They're just a clickbait company now.

The problem with Edge is that it's become loaded with so many useless features. I like Chrome because it's fairly lightweight in terms of design. If I wanted a fully loaded browser I'd use Vivaldi.

General layoffs are just never a good idea unless as the very last resort. I've personally seen the demoralizing effect it creates, triggering more people to leave the same year. For highly technical teams, you can never really repla

Why are we seeing such positive coverage of ChatGPT and such negative coverage of Bing's ChatGPT whitelabel? Is it the expectation ChatGPT being new and experimental, and Bing being established?

We used Teams for video occasionally back in 2019 before the pandemic. It was pretty unreliable, and had much better success with BlueJeans or Zoom. If there were more than a couple people on camera, Teams couldn't handle it the same w

Georgia Tech's OMSCS master's degree program used to use Udacity for all of its lecture videos. I personally liked Udacity. A couple years ago, Georgia Tech moved everything to their own platform on Canvas. I heard there were iss

I live in an apartment complex that has a full-sized grocery store in it in the US. It's actually not what you think. The grocery store and shops are on the bottom, with 5 floors of apartments on top. There's no big giant park

This is like Amazon getting leapfrogged by an upstart shipping subscription service. The cornerstone of Google is search, and everything else depends on that.

Every company should set a 6 month trial period on engineers turned managers. I only know one or two engineers who ended up enjoying it. It's far, far more likely to dip your toes into it with enthusiasm and realize you hate it. It&#

Outside of the context of avoiding overtime payments, job title inflation is definitely used to help attract and retain employees. A few decades ago, a director level position was a manager of managers, and usually one of the key decision

Microsoft Teams is a good Slack-like software. The UI is much more conducive to threads by default, which is an excellent choice. Had lots of issues with video calls being unreliable pre-covid, and our company eventually abandoned it.
