Some initial site feedback: * The tags should be links so that I can click one and filter on all projects with that tag. * Where is the search box? I assume that I just don't see it, but if it doesn't exist then that should be project #1 on

Oh wow. This was the first computer book I ever owned. My parents bought me an Apple IIc when I was 11, causing me to nearly wet my pants, and I'm quite certain that everyone in the neighborhood heard the screaming. I spent hours and days t

Transferring a file is a long-since-solved problem. It's large files that are troublesome. The original Internet protocol designers weren't thinking about multi-GB HD video files. What upsets me the most is that I've been annoyed by transfe

The major workflow shift that involves the skies parting and mana floating down from heaven when you switch to a DVCS (git, hg) is the ease and lightweight nature of branching. Having used git for four years, I now feel absolutely filthy if

I don't even want to think about the cost of this book right now. I recently cleaned out a huge pile of old computer books, stacking them into "keep" and "trash". My copy of K&R is currently missing. Odds are pretty decent that it's flo

It looked like it at first, since I block JavaScript by default. Their menu system covered most of the page except for the github logo next to a "download now" link.

The price hike didn't bother me. The company split would be annoying, but not the end of the world. It's the terrible UI design of the new site that has me looking for alternatives. It's so bad. Do they actually think that this UI is functi

I didn't say that we should have anarchy. I said that if I'm going to produce a string of 1's and 0's, I get to arrange them in the manner of my choosing. You need to clearly explain where you get the right to force me via law to produce th

DRM is toxic. Just like lead. Eating a CD might be bad for your health, but that's where this analogy stops. I rarely buy DRM-protected content, and will always prefer open formats. (See also: My digital PragProg mountain that I've purcha

First, these senior Googlers could be posting a ton privately and we simply don’t know it. But it’s more likely that their lack of public engagement is indicative of their lack of engagement overall. Almost all of my G+ posts are private.

Why is Hyena's comment being down-voted? It's 100% correct. You are your own brand and your own product. Staying up-to-date with current tech is your own responsibility. Crying about falling behind won't pay the bills.

Some holes? It's all holes. But, I agree that I shouldn't have called it communism. That label doesn't quite fit what the video is advocating. It's still propaganda though, of whatever variety.

What a crock of garbage. 6.5 minutes of hand having and pie-in-the-sky dreaming, without a scrap of evidence that anything being said has any basis in reality. This is clearly divorced from basic economic principles. To pick one of many lin

Following up on this. I ordered a couple of Piccadilly Essential Notebooks (small size) -- one hard cover, one soft cover. So far so good. I like the paper and the size. The soft cover easily fits in my back pocket. The hard cover fits as w

I would add to that: Don't link to a screenshot of someone else's blog and then pass it off as your own. Link to the original -- you know, the person who actually put in the effort to write the article.

The newer Moleskine books tend to fall apart easily. This is unfortunate, since they do so much correctly (size of page and color of paper being two big ones for me). In the search for a replacement, this blog reviews many alternatives, and

They should probably stop sending Netflix $8 per month and support a competitor instead. It's absurd that a private business can be forced via lawyers to offer a particular product. "We don't want to" should be allowed in a free society.
