I asked if it is a network if it is built on top of another network. I think in that case, the answer is no. Ironic that the network he's talking about is built on top of the TCP/IP stack. I guess the point of the article is to argue abou

It isn't easy, but it pays off. I slept on my floor for 2 years after I got a job as an engineer at IBM. The overall point is this. If you say that you're poor, but you have a cable connection, TV, cell phone, data plan, multiple cars on

I was talking about private insurance, not COBRA (which is crazy expensive). This was the single largest factor keeping me from quitting the corporate world for my own business, but only due to my own ignorance. Once I looked for a high ded

Amen. The trait of rich people that I try to emulate (not always successfully) is that they tend to purchase assets that appreciate in value. Toys are paid for with highly disposable money and not the nest egg. The trait of poor people that

As someone from South America, I'm amazed that in the U.S. you're out of health coverage if you're not employed. You're not. The tax structure encourages this kind of behavior, but the day I quit my job 5 years ago I started cutting a che

I love my MBP, as it seems clearly designed to get some work done with minimal hassle. Apple's desktop choices are very frustrating. I only buy Mini's as a computer to attach to the TV. It's great for a little, quiet computer that I don't h

It's mainly the inertia of not knowing where to begin. It's good to know that the process is easier now though. At the risk of descending into total newbie-land, when you say "do some research" where do you start with that? Has the state of

The site is down, but I'll take a stab at it anyway. Not owning a TV doesn't make you an asshole. Making sure that everyone else knows you don't own a TV is what makes you an asshole.

I generally loathe recruiters, but I do feel a bit sorry for them. They are up against the real recruiters in this field: other software developers. The pattern that I've seen over and over is: * Good developer #1 starts a project. * Hey, t

Is there a height at which "bouldering" becomes "rock climbing"? It's probably defined in the insurance contract somewhere.

You mean that you deleted it with dd ? Can you show a before and after of what you're trying to accomplish, because it's very likely possible. I'm just not sure what you're trying to do.

I'm sure that you're right, but then the vast majority of people are easily swayed by cheap political rhetoric. If they're playing by the same rules, which it appears that they are, then what's the problem? It's not like he hasn't already p

Can we please knock off the nonsense of this "Buffett secretary" talking point? Debbie Bosanke is estimated to make north of $200k per year, while Buffet is paying capital gains rates. Of course her rate is higher.

People are getting rid of bookshelves. Treat the money you budgeted for shelving as found money. Go to garage sales and cruise the curbs. I found this amusing as the first bullet point, since it pretty much screams, "Don't open a bookst

Remap caps-lock to escape Ugh, why? Remapping caps-lock to Ctrl makes more sense to me. The Escape key is still in the upper-left, and banging somewhere in that vicinity usually hits it. Also Ctrl-C equals Escape in vim, so you still have
