That argument seems flawed to me. The government already does have the power to tax, and could arbitrarily take away all your assets, but in developed nations, it doesn't.

I don't think there's anything new (nor do I think "newness" is the best way to judge an essay), but I do think you've mis-paraphrased the first point. It's not so much "they don't need that much mone

They have a publicly available progress tracker* that’s based off of their internal Jira. They only forecast one quarterly release at a time, though, so there’s no ultimate release date. Given the size and complexity of the project, I doubt

A lot of misinformed comments in this thread, most of which are repeating the “scam” canard. I expected better of HN than the sort of rhetoric that shows up on r/games. I’m not a backer of the game, but I have been following it with in

Violates the constitution? I’m not a constitutional scholar, but that sounds like a ridiculous argument. Article 1, section 3: “The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State…” The 14th amendment introduce

Stowing large electronic items (bigger than a cell phone) is a safety requirement, and it’s likely that flight attendants have much less leeway in safety requirements than other aspects of the job. (Please note that I’m not arguing that’s i

I agree that half-assery is a failure mode of the adaptive approach. I don't think it's an inherent problem with the approach, though, just a common mistake people make. You're supposed to split your product into pieces with

The article describes a predictive project-management approach, and it's the same misguided focus on deadlines you hear from people with a predictive mindset. But an adaptive approach is so much more effective. The adaptive approach: P

To be clear, the “for now” is @jdrc speculating. The announcement doesn’t say anything about this being temporary, although they do say they are continuing to monitor and appreciate feedback.

From TFA, in case you were wondering: > If you lose 10kg of fat, precisely 8.4kg comes out through your lungs and the remaining 1.6kg turns into water. In other words, nearly all the weight we lose is exhaled.

If you had read the article, you would have learned that the state can't do that, and why they can't. That's what the entire article is about.

Do you have any evidence for this statement ("Apple paid them not to"), or are you just making shit up?

Complete agreement—soup-to-nuts delivery of software for a particular ecosystem (Apple in this case) is definitely an "it" I can imagine companies hiring for.

It sounds like you haven't been part of a healthy workplace environment, and have so much anger about employer/employee relationships that you're straw-manning my hypothetical. That's too bad. But healthy workplaces do e

You're probably right. I've noticed a trend of people fantasizing out loud in the past 3-5 years. It's nearly always cynical / conspiracy-theory fantasies, and they're stated as fact (or near-fact, as GP did), but w

This sort of handwavy conspiracy thinking is distressingly common. What basis do you have for your suspicion? Is it just “big company bad”?

Agreed, this seems like shallow advice. It seems to assume individual work rather than teamwork as well. I'm a dyed-in-the-wool XP'er, so I prefer continuous integration, which involves merging code every few hours.
