That was my thought too. General rule of thumb for independent contracting is that you should take the annual salary you would normally make and chop off the zeroes to get the hourly rate. So 150K/yr becomes $150/hr. That’s about

I live in Portland OR where electric cars are fairly popular. People just run an extension cable out to the street and put a cable cover over it on the sidewalk.

To be fair, I’m pretty sure the 2010 Prius uses a completely different battery chemistry than modern electric cars. (I think it’s NiCad, but I’m not 100% sure on that.)

That’s a slogan from Extreme Programming! Coined by Ron Jeffries, I think, along with YAGNI (You Aren’t Gonna Need It), as a way of reminding people not to overengineer for features that in the plan.

According to Wikipedia, the ranking agency is lauded for its objectivity and independence. The ranking is based on these factors: 10% for number of alumni who are Nobel laureates or Fields medalists 20% for number of staff who are Nobel lau

The problem with this sort of approach is that the complexity moves to the interaction between microservices. And in fact, software is made out of little interacting boxes already. They’re called “functions” and “classes.”

The topic seems relevant to HN and the article was well-written: to the point, with all the facts as well as surrounding context, and no bloviating. I don’t see why ad hominem-ing the source is necessary.

For those that just read the headlines: Transgender service members are being forcibly separated from the service under Trump’s orders. Those with 15 to 18 years of service applied for early retirement benefits. (Retirement normally happens

At least one popular passive investment guide, _A Random Walk Through Wall Street,_ explicitly recommends investing in a real estate fund. Or at least it did last time I looked.

Investors are often irrational in the short term. Personally, I think it’s a combination of FOMO, wishful thinking, and herd following.

I know you’re just expressing your frustration, but the “the person who did this should be fired” meme you’re propagating is pretty toxic. Decisions like this are never the work of one person, and even when they are, any problems you’re per

I’ve started with tasks that I understand at an expert level myself. The LLM has invariably gotten surface-level work correct and subtle details wrong. Given those errors, I’m not willing to use them for things I don’t understand. LLMs are

The majority of the time I’ve used an LLM, it’s failed to do the task properly. The times that it worked are the times that a bit of Googling would have solved. I’m not OP, but I’m not at the point where I would spend money on an LLM either

“AI”—assuming you mean LLM-based coding assistants—don’t learn. All they have is the context you give them. Seniors may learn how to manipulate that context to get better results over time, but that’s not the AI learning in any meaningful s

REST on the WWW only works because humans read and interpret the results. Arguably, that’s not an API (Application Programming Interface) but a UI (User Interface). I have yet to see an API that was improved by following strict REST princip
