This is the definition of an ad hominem attack. If you want to prove the judges are partisan, talk about the flaws in the ruling, not who appointed them.

I think the point is that, as a manager, you can’t fake it and still feel good about yourself. Whereas an engineer can just feel good about doing a good technical job even if you don’t buy into the company direction.

Quality is more important than quantity in engineering, so a mediocre hire can be a net negative. In so many ways: - consuming time and attention from people who help them - time spend checking and fixing their work - additional maintenance

Landfills are designed to prevent that sort of leaching. There’s an interesting Practical Engineering article / video about it: https://practical.engineering/blog/2024/9/3/the-hidden-engin...

Laurent Bossavit’s The Leorechauns of Software Engineering looks into this claim (and several others) and finds that, yes, many of these studies do share a common origin, and often misquote/misrepresent it.

Just marketing spam. The message is interesting, but there’s so much shilling of their product and blatant bias , I wasn’t able to finish the article.

GP made an important point that you seemed to have missed: in modern architectures, it’s much more important to minimize memory access than to minimize instructions. They weren’t saying optimization isn’t important, they were describing ho

Probably about the same. IT process modernization efforts are as old as computers, and usually fail due to the (utterly foreseeable, but hubristically unforeseen) complexity in existing systems that only work due to undocumented institution

Yes, and you have to do it in a loop on every request. Not joking. It’s called “LLM as judge.”

At present, AI is starkly limited and not able to replace any job. At best, it can automate certain menial tasks, such as low-level support. In programming, it only works for non-trivial programs when used under the direction of an experien

I get that you found it frustrating. But speaking as somebody who’s not used Cursor and is genuinely interested in hearing unbiased perspectives about it, your “review” isn’t helpful. It boils down to “I couldn’t get it to work.” Given that

I find this sort of whataboutism in LLM discussions tiring. Yes, of course, there are teams of humans that perform worse than an LLM. But it obvious to all but the most hype-blinded booster that it is possible for teams of humans to work

While this is technically correct, everyday use of LLMs involves a non-zero temperature, so they (the whole package that people think of as “AI”) are non-deterministic in practice.

The question wasn’t “can we maintain our margin,” the question was “ can we manufacture in the US with the same margin we used to enjoy?” The whole thing is a stunt designed to focus ire against tariffs, but let’s not mischaracterize their

Under the GDPR, it’s illegal to treat PII like currency. You can’t gate a service behind PII consent.

Because LLMs match your prompt to data scraped off the internet, it’s plausible that being polite results in your response coming from more civil conversations that have more useful data.

You can’t (practically) unit test LLM responses, at least not in the traditional sense. Instead, you do runtime validation with a technique called “LLM as judge.” This involves having another prompt, and possibly another model, evaluate the

You’re confusing the GDPR and the ePrivacy directive. (And maybe getting that wrong too. I’ve read the GDPR but not the ePrivacy directive. Oh, and IANAL.) The GDPR doesn’t require consent for cookies. What it requires is a lawful basis for

Bonds and stocks tend to have an inverse correlation. And, yep, bonds are up while stocks and real estate are down. That’s why financial advisors tell you to keep a mix of stocks and bonds, trending towards a greater percentage of bonds dep
