I just took a look at your project - you really need to simplify the README. I read the whole thing but it’s still not clear to me what you app actually does. I have no idea what a “Social Operating System” is supposed to be. Seems like it

It really sounds like the prosecution had exactly zero evidence that this man was guilty, but determined to prosecute him anyway, rather than “lose”. Disgusting.

1) in addition to the excellent recommendations already mentioned: Brendan Gregg has a lot of good stuff about monitoring and performance analysis https://brendangregg.com/ https://github.com/brendangregg A

Do any of us really care which of these mega-bureaucracies is to blame for each particular hurdle to receiving healthcare? From the patient’s perspective, they are all conspiring to gouge us, deny us care, and perpetuate their gold-plated m

I don’t think this is a viable option anymore. Most new patients are scheduled 3-9 months out in my experience. It’s particularly bad trying to see a specialist (I’ve been trying to get a spinal consultation for 10 months now, and I still n

I really wish we could get rid of the TSA, but I don't think it'll ever happen. It's not about security, the whole thing is a jobs program (and always was IMO).

But it has been a bubble and popped/crashed/recovered 4(?) times now - it seem fair to start considering it as a cycle rather than a bubble. I don’t know much about crypto or finance, so maybe I’m completely wrong

It honestly seems like you’re way more interested in your “one more step” than you are about making a backup copy for your kids, otherwise why not use one of the many available ripping tools? You’re not going to create a “clever hack” that

I found Emily Oster's books pretty informative (she's an economist by training, she does kind of a meta-analysis of research on various topics of interest). Her books should at least give you a good jumping off point if you want t

What's the point of a carbon tax if it's balanced by a government subsidy? Edit: Genuinely curious what I'm missing..

I get it, I guess I just don’t see the point of trying to determine how much of the project I did myself here and now, 30 years later. It was my idea and I wrote the code, but my dad certainly helped with the physical design, and I think he

Perhaps that generation of cpus was very insufficiently cooled? This is before people even really put much of a heat sink on a cpu. The code did run faster with ice water, and faster again with liquid nitrogen. It was a high school, county-

This is exactly correct. The nerd/hacker acorn doesn’t fall far from the nerd/hacker tree. Same reason I had a spare 286 lying around

My dad got it just to play with on a couple of occasions. We froze and reanimated brine shrimp once..blew up a 2 liter bottle (do not attempt - it was really loud). He just got it from a gas supply - I’m sure it’s the same situation today

My measurement technique was extremely simplistic - how much wall clock time does it take to do this computationally-intensive task. It ran faster with ice water, and even faster with the liquid nitrogen (until it died from condensation). I

I mean, my dad had already got liquid nitrogen for us to play with on a few occasions, I think he suggested “something with liquid nitrogen would be science fair gold”..it doesn’t take very deep knowledge to understand that cooler is better

It really wasn’t that fancy, I didn’t even measure the clock speed - just wrote a little program (I think it was in QBasic) that calculated factorials or something (don’t remember the details), then measured performance difference between n

I won a science fair when I was a kid doing this with a 286; it worked great except for all of the condensation :D
