I suppose the random access nature of the CD also made it easier to only listen to the good songs. Not that you can’t on vinyl or tape, but it’s certainly not as easy. Anyway, I didn’t do a great job expanding on my previous thought. The 1-

Not to get all music snob (because I’m not), but aren’t there already several options for artists to connect directly with music lovers? Isn’t this basically the indie music scene? Most consumers of music don’t care enough to seek it out, a

Had a 12 mini and just upgraded to the 13 mini. The unofficial rumor mill last year was that mini sales were lower than expected. But apparently the 14 Plus also has had lower than expected sales as well. It’s my opinion that neither the mi

Ugh. Those memories. I was among the last to have to use dial-up from off-campus (which required a specialty ISP @ 26.6k or some awful speed). Fortunately, they upgraded their system while I was there, so I could use the “much” faster DSL.

On iOS, Rain Rain is my favorite. It’s a free with limitations app, but I don’t find the limitations too bad. But honestly, we have a HomePod mini that does 99.999% of the work in the house. The HomePod has half-a-dozen or so background noi

Too many people here (in the US) are just assholes when it comes to this sort of thing. Leave no trace doesn’t apply to them, their trash, their “neat” rock cairns, or their pet’s droppings.

For me, weekends are a time to get things done that can’t be done during the week after work/school. And from a certain point of view, they are still “work” days, except I’m working for myself instead of a company. Compare that to a va

That’s kinda my point though. At my gym, about half of the people I see in the pool are so inefficient that they barely can swim 25 yards without getting exhausted. But to them, they’re “swimming”. I know you mentioned amateurs, but I’m rea

Yep. “Lengthening the stroke” is the end result. But body rotation, head position, engaging your core/abs, how your arms enter and pull through the water all make it so much more fluid. Even the angle of your elbow and hands. I’m certa

Or marking up PDF plans and reviewing the field plan review comments with the pencil in the field. It’s better than trying to manage 60+ tabloid-size pages and a 30 page document in the field. It’s a tool that’s really good for some things

See also swimming. A lot of people, myself included, know how to “swim” freestyle. But the difference in technique between trained and untrained is stark if you know what to look for. It takes a lot of effort to unlearn the improper techniq

I’m sure with all of the sensors it would be technologically possible, but I’d be interested to see if there is an augmented dark mode (dim the lights in a bright room) or night/low-light vision mode (use the IR depth sensors to add li

For the most part, I agree. We aren't all super skinny. Since Jan 1, I’m down about 20 pounds with another 10-15 to go. But endurance athletes are quite different to just “regular” athletes. Someone who does a < 60 minute workout w

I’m training for an Ironman later this year. Surprisingly, the longest run I am scheduled for is 2:45. When I did my half- IM in ‘21, I never ran for more than 2 hours. It takes a good aerobic base just to finish, but a lot of it is mental
