While I would prefer ansible as well, the author does show why ansible is problematic for some people: > Chef works atop ssh, which – while the gold standard for cryptographically secure systems management – is computationally expensive

They are also getting the branding and employees, which I would imagine are where most of the worth is. Also, the MakerBot Replicator 2, which has sold more units than all previous models combined, is mostly not at all opensource.

Its funny that you say "rare even in Europe", since I wouldn't call the A8L to be rare in the US (at least on the east coast). I see different ages of them all the time.

At work I mostly use 2x Dell U2412m (1920x1200) on my laptop, neither rotated. I would love to switch to 1x 30" 2560x1600 and 1 20" 1600x1200 pivoted.

Many users would find a USB3 array to be fast enough. I would likely go that route instead of a TB array just based on the cost difference between the two. I expect that a 4k display will totally consume a TB port each. The 2x 2560x1600 d

That's $27 in volume, which is a bit of a disappointment after getting used to Raspberry Pis in single unit volume of $25. However, unlike the RPi, this is likely more suitable for commercial use, once you figure out how to buy one.

What I want is something debian based with Upstart, gnome3, and replacement window manager and panel/launcher, fitting on a single CD or DVD (around a gig). Ubuntu with GNOME3 installed and running LXDE and Launchy comes close, except LXDE

Verizon would not. For AT&T and T-Mobile (as well as MVNOs based on those two such as StraightTalk, SimpleMobile), you can waltz in (or go to the website) and get just a SIM card to pop into the phone of your choice. When it comes to

Perhaps consider buying a commercial display then. Not only do thye lack tuners, but if there is an ethernet port, it is most likely there for you to use to remote control the display. The only downside is that they typically cost a bit mo

You could use: VBoxManage startvm archiveteam-warrior-2 --type headless which would replace VBoxHeadless and remove the requirement for screen. You will need another VBoxManage command to setup VNC if you desire to use that.

If you order just SIM card, it will be AT&T though, which is what I did. I was using T-Mobile, but their coverage just wasn't good enough (defined as not working at my desk at work).
