That may or may not be legal. IANAL but telling a user that his/her data has been deleted when in fact it still sits on the server could be regulation violating or downright illegal depending on where you are. Of course it would probab

Yeah I do prefer desktop clients over web apps and browser plugins. But I do do not want to have to mark messages as read twice, once on my computer and again on my phone which is why I tolerate the Chrome Hangout plugin.

Does it fully integrate with Hangout? If you get a message and read it in the app, does your Hangout mobile app's notification badge disappear?

Yeah given that the new Hangouts is a proprietary closed protocol (as far as I know) I don't think it's possible for third party to fully integrate. Their site has the Hangout logo and says Hangout on the feature list which gave m

Does it actually integrate with Google Hangout? I stopped using Adium and switched to the Google Hangout Chrome plugin because Adium did not fully integrate with Hangout (messages I read on Adium do not get marked as read on the Hangout app

It doesn't really even affect 1024 bit keys as even the largest RSA keys factored (this one is close but isn't) are quite a bit far away from 1024 (remember factoring difficulty scales exponentially with number of bits, not linear

Probably. But at the time I thought it was a problem I could've taken care of in less than a minute, basically de-activate my account then create another one and add the code. In this case I chose not to contact them, because as fast a

I ran into the same problem just last week when I tried to make an account to try it out. I added a credit card to my account without a promotion code, but later on found out about the new promotion they are doing (free $10). I realized tha

Not sure if it's the entire AZ. We have some Internet-reachable instances and Internet unreachable instances in the same AZ.

ELBs are also having problems. One of mine is reporting all instances out of service (transient error), then all instances in service, intermittently. But the ELB is never reachable (even when it reports all instances healthy and up). All i

I think a falling ball of lead would have a very high terminal velocity, as it is quite dense and in a rounded shape. I doubt it has much of an effect at the height needed to make these shots.

I would add computability and complexity theory to that list. Some computational complexity should be covered in algorithms and data structures, but theory of computation is not really (as algorithms by definition solves only computable pro

Why would this generate electricity? The energy put in to spin the ball must be higher than what you get out of it.

"Two years in, Go has never been our bottleneck, it has always been the database." I would expect this to be true with any language, if you code well. Regular web applications do not have state so they are very easily scaled horiz

Simply put, a bigger aperture means you can let more light in, which means better image quality in low light conditions (don't need to increase film/sensor ISO level as much), and shorter minimum exposure time (for taking photos o

If everyone uses Adblock, it could be detrimental to a lot of free web services that are supported solely on ad revenue. I am not sure if there is a good solution here...

That hinges on browser support for DHE for key exchange (or some other method that provides PFS, like the elliptic curve optimized ones), which is not supported on all browsers. Notably IE and older Chrome/FF, though this could've

Just to add: make sure your applications handle SSL certificates properly, and only trust either verified signed certificates or only the known certificate from the API server. Otherwise MITM could still expose everything.

I'm aware of the API rate limit when an AZ goes down, but the original comment was about problems that people run into for highly-variable traffic sites that scale up and down on a regular basis (e.g. spin up 20 instances during the day wit

If you are using a hybrid approach (assuming dedicated + EC2), you have to have the ops system in place to deal with the dedicated environment AND the EC2 environment, which is why devops cost will be higher. Of course if you only deal with

The main issue with the hybrid approach is devops cost. you will be basically dealing with two very different infrastructures, and building the ops for such a hybrid system could be costly (in money and time). Taking this into account, the

AWS does per-hour billing, so you definitely do not have to commit to a month for on-demand instances.
