It's funny, but double tapping the power button to switch on the light is one of the things I miss the most when using GrapheneOS. Most android phones I've had have had this feature, either double press or long press to get light.

I understand how transistors work too, and how they can result in a picture on a screen. But I think most people outside the software / electronics areas don't and to them it's just magic.

The last time I came across Forensic Architecture was their report on the Beirut Port Explosion, someone posted it here on HN. Mind blowing analysis. https://forensic-architecture.org/investigation/beirut-port-...

This struck me too, the fact that this task is so impossible. Language changes in the time axis but also in the location and social axes. The best we can probably hope for is one snapshot in time. However this is meant to be a blogger, jour

All of my banking related apps work fine. The only apps that haven't worked are Google wallet for NFC payments and, strangely "macrofactor" a calorie tracking app. Google wallet works for things like library cards, tickets et

I'm repeatedly shocked by the images of these ICE agents dressed like they are soldiers in a war zone. I was just thinking how in my country immigration officials would be probably wearing formal clothes and have clipboards and paperwo

I can understand the outrage. Was there any motivation given for why they cut it down? Just vandalism?

Yeah, even if I'm on a plane or a train I probably wouldn't pull out my laptop. Lack of space, vibrations etc. even though I can do a lot of work offline if the internet is spotty. It's just not enjoyable. I prefer to read or

In Ireland, many child care providers use it as the only way to communicate, posting service updates, photos etc to WhatsApp groups. Same goes for kids sports activities.

Like others I would recommend starting with spirited away, should be suitable, and enjoyable for kids in 10-15 bracket.

I don't believe that's true. The article suggests flooding the system with dummy "should send" transactions so that they become the majority. Quote: > One such solution that I know of is one that Carl Cook talked abou

Why not just make all the abandon transactions into fake discarded transactions, discard them at the send later. E.g. by poisoning the frame checksum or setting something invalid on them, so they get discarded. Seems you'd be doing thi

Yup, another inbox only user here. Unread means it's a to-do. In Gmail you can set it to group all unread at the top. Sometimes I'll open an email and mark unread again if I need to come back to it.

This sounds really annoying. I prefer claudes opt in implementation, where if you want to reference an earlier chat you can just say, remember we spoke about xyz and otherwise the feature seems to be completely off.

Do you browse hacker news on your phone? Genuine question, I don't use social media but I do spend a lot of time on HN on my phone.

Yeah that's what I was referring to. In relation to the tonies. It would be a competitor to the tonie box. Both are popular in Ireland. I did see some stuff about people reverse engineering the tonies back when we first got it, not sur

That's actually a good idea. I actually hate leaving something not compiling in the evening, it feels like things are unfinished, but it helps getting back into it. I tend to use this more when taking a break for an hour or two. But it

To add to that, leaving something in a very obviously broken unfinished state really helps to jump back into the flow the next morning, or whenever you come back. I actually find it very hard to do this, to walk away with some code that isn

I read something before about how if you've bought a vacuum cleaner, maybe there is an issue and you return it, so you are still more likely than a random person in purchasing one again soon. Not sure if there's ant truth in that.
